Monday morning Sept. 11. 1865

Dear Mother, Did you see the letter I wrote Mr. Calkins? Some of the boys brought letters from home + go to other churches. It requires a pair of pants with a leather seat to stand sitting on the benches at prayer. [sketch of benches] the recitation benches at the same kind seats at dinner + seats at home [illegible] at church are all of wood + ne'er a cushion. I ache sometimes from sitting 2 hours at a time on them.

Daily routine AM 6 rise 6 1/2 breakfast (hard chairs) at Union Club.. 7 study (hard chairs) at Home 81/2 go to prayers (hard seats) at "Old Brick" 9 ~~ recitation (hard seats) ~ "Theo. Sem" 10 1/2 ~~ study (hard chairs) ~ Home 12 ~~ dinner (hard chairs) ~ U. Club. 12 1/2 ~~ -play (soft seats) 1 1/2 ~~ Study (hard chairs) at Home

hereafter send Drafts on Boston or Greenbacks. $5 greenback would soon amount to something if one was sent in each letter. I want you to give me a melsly allowance for peas, apples, grapes, melons, nuts, etc. Cure the fleas on the dog by all means if Ellen can find a way. I can't tell what you sent in trunk I don't want some [???] the slate & mats etc. I found the clothes bag I thought it was a towel at first. I threw the wheat from the window where it will be watered daily by the water throw from my washboard. Long's Atlas is excellent + will be useful in college + in after life but I hesitate because the price is high + I don't want to spend too much money. If it was my money I should not falter a minute. State if you thing[think] it would be an advantageous purchase ask Mr Dwight? It cost $3.75. I took tea at Mr Dwights las night & saw the Rev Dr & M H. Dwight's sister + Mr. Smith's sister.
