Andover Monday Aug. 28. 1865
Mother,
After I left you I went to Cambridge & after a while we took a drive. I was so uncomfortable that I did not enjoy it much because my woolen drawers scratched me so hard. After I went to bed I made that all right by taking the sticks out next morning. Saturday afternoon Mr. Ward & Frank left. Sunday I went in the morning to the Congregation al church & in evening to the Baptist. I had a bad headache & was sick at the stomach on Friday & Saturday Sunday it was better & today it is very nearly all gone I feel very much better. Tell Alice to Excuse this writing as I am writing with a poor pen holder & sitting on my bedding & carpet

Dear Mother. When I saw what tall & old "fellers" were to be in my class, I was somewhat discouraged. Seymour has not come yet. I have not heard from him. I dined & supped on Monday at the Crescent not Cresson as I said & on Tuesday Breakfasted at the Union Club & decided for the latter as I found things neater. You would be surprised to sit at meat with us for it is meat & potatoes with bread butter always for dinner with desert of pie or pudding. I can eat my quarter of a pie now without any scruple & we get a heaping saucerful of pudding always. Mr. Dwight came into see me on Monday & Tuesday evenings. I will send you an account of monies as soon as I am settled. Mr. Taylor examined me again this morning along with the others. We all passed & he said he could not tell yet how we could get along. I shall have
