Macquarie Grove Feby [February] 15th /17 [1817]

Dear Sir William Keating has obtained leave to go to Sydney - He wants a little money - If convenient you may give him 10/ but he wants more - for that you must use your discretion -I have been so busy for some time that I could not write you on your determination

[MS 57]

My much respected Sir Time denies me the pleasure of acknowledging yours in a long epistle - was sorry I had not the favour of attending your parting, & I learn, affecting address to the Children and Teachers of the Sunday school. I find it impossible to [indecipherable] on you and must bid farewell without a parting sight - I don't intend this note for

[MS 61]

Macquarie Grove Feby [February] 19th 1817 (underlined) Dear Sir I feel rather reluctant to miss an opportuity of sending you a short letter, tho [though] I have nothing to relate more than my humble respects, the only [indecipherable] of gratitude in my power to return, for your condescending friendship - If my ardent wishes for your welfare, and safe return to your Dear family, could be of any avail in expediting your hopes, I might claim a place amongst

going to England - I hope and trust you have a sugges - tion from the Holy Spirit to become a Candidate for the important and most honorable office - Could I find words to convey my ideas I might say something flattering on the subject - but I hope you are not looking forward to anything save [MS 55] the reward that awaiteth [Ink blot] those who turn many to righteousness - May God protect you from the champions of infidelity that you must encounter - whose impious arrows have often acted like a slow corroding poison against those that have defeated them -- Excuse haste an [and] inaccuracy in your humble loving Servant J Bradley

[MS 58] my last as the Cart will be going down tomorrow. but lest you might be gone - I send this hasty scrawl to assure you of my love, & friendly, I mean christian duty, which is much neglected by the best friends thro' [through] [indecipherable] of delicacy - I am going to offend you - I hope not - I often praised you

[MS 59] but never intended flattery - I now think, & have imagined since you thought seriously of imbarking on the honorable cause - that vanity has (three words underlined) in some measure (two words underlined) assailed (underlined) you. I fear you have not suspected it - I hope this is not so - for God [God's] sake guide against ambition. It's the most dangerous ladder and may be ascended in a spiritual as well as tempor al point of view - You agree our hearts deceive [indecipherable] and the best of men [indecipherable]

[MS ?] The many that have your welfare at heart - I fear the Sunday Schools will suffer much by your absence - but Providence may send you back in due time with accumulated light & heat - like the returning Sun after his winter's absence from the cheerless regions of the Polar Circles. - God grant that your intentions & the ardent hopes of your Christian Friends may be realised, even beyond expectation - I hope you

[MS63] will discover Truth, (underlined) and divest it of the trappings and appendages - that so much confound & mislead the ignorant - I might add the Philosopher too - Remember it must be sought with a simple heart which is seldom found in Schools - I trust you'll sip honey like the bee from every flower - that the Lord may make you as a polished shaft in his quiver - is the prayer of your Humble Servant - J Bradley (underlined)
