78° 71° French & Tennyson & buttermilk forenoon Earl Barnes & lecture "The Land of Greece" with Miss Lerman [previous 3 words inserted later] afternoon

Friday 2

91°70° French Tennyson & buttermilk a.m. Earl Barnes' lecture with Miss Lerman & walked into town afternoon. Went to reception in Assembly Hall at 8p.m met Gideon Bosman from S.A. He & Lawton saw Miss Lerman & I home

Sat. July 3, 1909

Very cool & fine Walked into town in forenoon with Misses Lerman & Groeble, saw Capitol Bldg etc. Saw Miss Two & her mother in afternoon Professor Lindt lecture at night in Assembly Hall.

Sunday 4

quite cold. Walked to p. office with Dorothy Rogers a.m. Called on Mrs Edwardes in the afternoon Girls came to my room in evening.

Monday 5

Cold day. Slept in forenoon. Studied French

Tues. July 6, 1909

Lessons began again with a vengeance. Students "sing-song" in assembly Hall at 7-30 to 8.30 p.m. Walked home with Mrs Reber - Miss Simmons' friend

Wednesday 7

French buttermilk & Tennyson in forenoon. French all the rest of the day. "Fierce!"

76-64° French Tennyson & butter milk in the forenoon - French, French!

Fri. July 9, 1909

88°-66° Routine morning plus a Tennyson lecture at 5p.m. Coney Island in Assem. Hall at night. Gideon & Van Meerton afterwards took Miss Lerman & I to Keeley's.

Saturday 10

Poorly. Worked on French verbs & answered letters. Trammed into town & posted letters to mother. Very hot day.

Sunday 11

Afternoon & evening with Gideon Bosman & Elbert Van Meerton across lake & had dinner down town. Excruciatingly exhausted.

Mon. July 12, 1909

School again. Went to the song recital in the evening & after with Miss Lerman & Bosman & Van Meerton to buy fruit.

Tuesday 13

Worked hard at French & other things. Went to hear Felix Adler.

Wednesday 14

Worked hard at French. In the evening Van Meerton took us to eat a watermelon on the bank of the lake in front of Y.M.C.A.
