Miles Franklin pocket diary, 1909

Sun. Aug. 29, 1909

Cool clear day. In morning called on Mrs Camp & went to the p.o. alone for mail. Slept in afternoon. Before supper Mrs Camp & Miss Wilkerson called on us. After supper I walked on Hill with Miss H. & down Langdon St with Misses Bonfoey & Henry.

Monday 30

69° 60° Broke typewriter in morning. Rested in afternoon. Miss Hunt called & stayed for dinner. After we went with her & visited the Favill House.

Tuesday 31

Typewriter mended. Went to His. Museum in morning. Dined at [Devries?Devine's?] Cottage with Misses H. & Hunt Mrs La Follette. Mr & Mrs Quick (cold).

Wed. Sept. 1, 1909

Visited N. History Museums & walked on Hill with Miss Henry in morning. Afternoon saw her to train met miss Hunt. Went out taking photos with her dined with her at Park Av. Hotel. Went to Favill Hse. played 66.

Thursday 2

72˚ 53˚ Worked in morning. Walked down town in afternoon & slept before dinner. Read French after. Perishing cold. Wet day - dismal.

Friday 3

67˚ 56˚ Worked in morning. Afternoon walked into town to La Follette office. Saw Mr Quick. & Miss Hunt. Irene & John called after dinner. Dull but not so cold.

Sat. Sept. 4, 1909

After supper miss Bonfoey & I walked down town to get my brooches from jeweller. In afternoon walked down town with Mrs Barber. Worked in morning.

Sunday 5

Rode round 4th Lake with Mr. Henrichs. Lunched at Middleton. Fairly warm in the sun - Lots of butterflies out. After supper walked down to post Australian mail.

Monday 6

70˚56˚ Beastly cold. Went to see labor parade in afternoon. Called on Mrs Camp after dinner. Not so cold in the sun.

Tues. Sept. 7, 1909

68˚-59˚ Was photographed in morning. Went to library in afternoon. After dinner played piano. Mrs Ring & I in drawing room

Wednesday 8

75˚ 64˚ Mr. Dresden & Maynard called in afternoon. Went with them to former's flat & after down town to call on Miss Hunt. Dull day - drizzled.

Thursday 9

Worked in morning in afternoon helped miss Hunt prepare Favill hse. for reception. Mrs Camp & Mrs La Follette also there.

Fri. Sept. 10, 1909

Warm. Went to Dresden's flat in morning. Worked in morning & went to photographer for other sittings. In afternoon took Mrs. D. to Miss Hunt's reception at 12 E. Gorham St. to meet Mrs Quick & Mrs Wright. In evening called on V. Taylor

Saturday 11

Went to Dresden's flat & worked in morning. Afternoon went down town. Night went to Dresdens

Sunday 12

Wet & warm. Went for mail in morning. Slept in afternoon & went & brought Dresdens to supper at Kappa. Showed Mrs. Ring pictures in evening.
