some thunder Not more than barely layed the dust. Thomas,

2 daughters, Jesse Harris' daughter & son all eat dinner with

me. William was out at Thomas I had Tomatos for dinner One

Tomatoes ) that was larger than a Tin cup verry considerably all of us for dinner ) could not eat but the half of it Was about the largest I

have recollect of ever seeing. I have a verry goodly number

of them none I see so large

Thos ) Thomas left for Bigby Big. My bowels is verry much out of fix

Self ) like dark sope suds sometimes lite colour - looks like it was

mixed with milk -------------------------------------------- Mon 18 ) The morning is some cloudy calm & warm. W. It has rained

all round mostly S. E. & E. but none here Some thunder

verry warm William has stayed mostly at home fitting his

bridle & one for me that Hamon had cut the leathers out of

it to lead his most favorite specimen a dog (if a dog and a

bitch is all one). We had a fried chicken, potatoes, Tomatoes,

Cabbages &c for dinner No one to help William & me eat it &

we had it all our own way. --- I have fed all 3 of Aleck & Jack & ) Aleck ( Jack's work stock ever since the 10th of July at which time the See 10 July ) sorrel hors was so killed up he was not able to work, done by

the improper conduct of Aleck & Jack. My bowels are not much

Jack I would pay him he worked about 2/3 of the day which

he charges $.50 ------------------------------------------ Oats ) The morning is clear calm & warm W. Wed 20 ( Oats ) I have X George Burkett, Jack Patton cradling Oats with Jo, Georg Burket ( (paid) 1 day $1.00 ) cutting our Oats Saul Joice also commenced near 11 oclock Jack P. ( 1 day $1.00 ) helping get up the Oats he is tying & shocking &c. Saul Joice ( X 2/3 $.35 ) I stayed all night by myself William went & stayed out at paid ( Thomas's with Fanna she was by herself I was bad off all night

Self ) no one to give me a drink of watter and verry little able to

get it Suffered through the night verry much indeed. I am

better I got on Bell Mule & rode out to where they were a

cutting Oats stayed a little while & come hom verry much

exasted layed down till dinner, got up much refreshed eat

some dinner

Henry X ) A little fall of rain 4.20 weting the Oats that was cut in

Jo in the Oats & gitting hogs out of the Oats. Dave Blackman David ) Blackman ) with the black horse & Tyger halls Oats after dinner 4 loads

Jack ) of Oats & put them in the corn crib 250 bundles in each load Andy ( paid 4 ) Jack & Andy is tying Oats. Loned David Blackman my wagon to

move with. ---------------------------------------- 1870 ) The morning is clear calm & warm W. July ( Sat 23 ) I took off my flannen shirt this morning it was anoying me Flannen ( shirt off ) verry much in my feeble & weak condition I could not well

keep it on. I fear the consequence. Jo & Jack is halling up

Jack the ballence of the Oats with John Mule & Bell & Jack's

wagon the finished halling all the Oats 11 1/2 oclock they

have halled 3 loads & David & Jo yesterday halled 4 loads,

Oats ) making 7 loads in all & about 250 bundles in a load making all 1750 ( bundles ) in all about 1750 bundles They Oats had been waisted & fed

away from the time they got large enough to feed on, it has

Jack 1/2 ) saved the feeding of Corn. Jack has worked half the day today $1.00 ) D. Blackman ( & I paid him $1.00 D. Blackman got 1/2 wagon too of Oats to feed Oats 1/2 load ) with yesterday when he went home with the wagon

Puss went to Town drove Bell There was much lightening & some

thunder in the forepart of the night but no rain ------------------------------------------- Sun 24 ) The morning is clear some cooler. N. E.

Thomas ) & family ) Thomas has not come home I fear there is something wrong he was to have been back Fri night or Saturday. The boys Jack, Andy, Richd, little George & Henry case to the ditch at the Spring to clean it our but the rain stopt them at 10 1/2 oclock They done nothing only got up there spades Rain at 10 1/2) morning ) hows & c. when the rin commenced it also stopt me from going Self ) to Town. Town ) I went to Town after dinner I made a deed of Conveyance to W. J. Porter ) $2000. paid ( William J. Porter for all my lands in Lawrence county for 123 by Deed of ) 3 pieces of ( acres & 31 poles in payment of the $ 2000. of Conferderate money land 123 ) acres in ( I got of him to hire a substitute for my son Thos L . Porter Lawrence ) County made( in the Confederate Armey during the War of the rebellion. This 1st Augt. 1870) See 25 Augt. ( deed bears date the 1st day of Augt 1870 Witnessed by Jack

Augt Mon 15 ) It has raining the most of the night a steady a steady Rain The Rain ( waters are flush a branch running down through the lott & been raining for several days William ( William left this morning upon a hunting tower to the barrens took the 2 horse wagon. Will meet some of the Websters near to Mt. Pleasant said he would not probabaly be bacck before Friday, he took Jhon Mule sent us Websters horse Rain ) A Verry h eavy Rain is falling at 10 1/2 oclock It has rained ) several verry heavy rains through the day The ground is ) running with Watter; the Watters are up Not much Cotton ) made this year I fear ___________________________ Tu 16 ) The morning is dark & verry cloudy & damp. W. J. Webster stayed with me last night Hamon has gone hunt-
