Letter of Hargith
New Bern Sir
Both your Letters came safe to hand with Col. McCawleys, deed inclosed, I also the plate drawn by Mr Daniel, much to my satisfaction, which I laid before the Board, and will give you such information as comes within my knowledge Respecting the Proceedings of the Board,—
They have Voted £3000 to be laid out for the Building, and have appointed A. Mebane, W.R. Davie, A. Moore, Judge Williams,John Haywood Esq. and my self Commiſsioners, who are to Meet at Hillsborr. three days before the Superior Court Rises (Next) to fix on the spot for the university and to Lay of a Village and to do evry thing Neceſsary to forward the work by the spring of the year; In the mean time Genl. Mebane is impowered to agree with some person to make all the Brick
Brick and to get the flooring plank sawed so that the may be fit for work in the spring. —
Mr. Moore, Colo. Davie, Genl. Mebane and my self met since the Board adjourned in Order to find out the most practicable and expeditious way to procure Lime or shell, and Concluded the best way would be to get them Carried up to Fayette or [Oversborro.] this Season in Boats, if it is not done this Season it could not be done in the Summer; this [[illegible]] I mention to you convinced that you could be of Great aſsiſtance, your Busineſs often calling you to Wilmington and Fayette, and having the institution at heart
The Board have also paſsed a Resolution for they former Commiſsioner
to exhibit their accounts to the Treasurer of the Board for their expenses, who is fully authorized to settle the same and your son Walter being appointed Treasurer, I declined offering your Claim as you can settle with him at any time. — I hope to see you at [[Hillsborough, North Carolina|Hillsborr.]] when the Commitees meet, in the mean time.
