By Virtue of a Military Warrant from the Secretary of State No. 1595 Located the I have Surveyed for Charles Gerrard Aſsignee of the Heirs of Joseph Matthews Six hundred and forty Acres of Land on the South side of Cumberland River on Gouses Creek. Beginning on a Cherry & Locust running North four hundred and fifty two poles to a Hickory thence West two hundredand twenty six & a half poles to a Red Oak. Thence South four hundred & fifty two poles to two Dogwoods thence East to the Beginning. Platted by a Lead 200 poles to the Inch

Know all men by these presents that we Walter Alves Abraham [Lasom] and William Walters of the County of Orange and State of North Carolina are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Richard D. Spaight Esqr. Governor of the said State and his succeſsors in office in the sum of ten thousand pounds current money of the state aforesaid to which payment will and truly to be made We bind ourselves our heirs Executors or administrators Jointly and [severaly] firmly by these presensts as [[illegible]] our hands and seals this
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Walter Alves hath been appointed by the Trustees of the University of North Carolina, Treasurer for the said University. Now if the said Walter Alves shall reserve all monies, chattles, donations, Gifts, bequests and [[illegible]] whatsoever that belong or accrued to the said University during his office and at the expiration thereof shall amount with the trustees for the same, and the same pay and deliver over to the succeeding Treasurer, and shall well truly and faithfully discharge the duties of his office and the trust reposed in him as Treasurer as aforesaid then the above obligation to be made otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
