Letter from Lenord Gruen (sixth grade) to Misses Lapham

1418 E. Dayton St. Madison, Wis. March 4, 1910.

Dear Misses Lapham:-

The picture you have sent us is a very pleasing one. We received it yesterday afternoon. It is going to be hung up in our room.

Last year a man came on Mr. Lapham's birthday and told us all about him. He told us that Mr. Lapham loved the birds and flowers and animals. He would stand and study them for hours. Teacher told us that next year, March seventh, was his one hundredth anniversary.

Yours truly,

Leonard Gruen.

Dear Miss:-

In reply to your letter of the 5th, instant regarding to a copy of the Resolution changing the name from Schlitz to Lapham Park, you will receive from the Park board Secretary on whom I called on receiving your letter and he promised he would mail said resolution to your address which I gave him on yesterday. The resolution was prepared by me and introduced to the Common Council, the Park Board then took up the naming of the parks and I having requested the change of name as above mentioned it was adopted. So all is well that ends well.

Dear madam:

Many thanks for your favor of the 17th instant with copy of the subscribers to the first Public Library, April 6, 1846. I will preserve this with a great deal of interest. This list contains the many names of those long passed away, and that I have personal recollection of. I should have answered you earlier, could I have had the assistance of a stenographer. (Been home for 4 months-sick).

Very truly yours,

John M. Pereles.
