Messrs P. O'Brien & Co

Gentlemen,

My attention has been called to the fact that the By-laws (page 28 Article XII) and uniform in their provisions which require that all persons who perform work for Proprietors shall hand a permit from each Proprietor who so employs him.

I think it is the wish of our Trustees that this privision shall be strictly carried out, and would notify you now that I think a permit will be required of you for each lot for which you may have an order for care or other work for this coming season.

Several of the large Stone - dealers have procured a general permit on giving the proper bonds; and it is possible that some such arrangement will be practicable in your case, accompanied with a return

Messrs OBrien & Co

Gentlemen

I must respectfully request you on Saturday afternoons and on the afternoons before all holidays, to place no cut grass or other refuse piles in the Avenues or Paths, as it is then to late to remove them. I have no doubt you will see the propriety of such a request & shall hope you will direct your men to observe it.

Respectfully James W. Lovering Supt

Mt. Auburn P.O.

John T. Bradlee Esq. Ch. Comm. on Grounds.

Dr Sir

Mr Bucknam desires to remove two trees now on his tomb lot in Hazel Dell & to plant instead other & better trees.

As he is now at work grading & sodding the lot, he would be very glad to have the matter decided now, so that he can remove the roots also.

The lots you mentioned to me this morning as being in poor order, are not in care of the Corporation.

Respectfully James W. Lovering Supt

Messrs P.O. Brien & Co.

Dr Sirs

As there seems to be some misunderstanding among other parties in regard to permits, I will respectfuly inform you in regard to your Permit (you have applied to the Trustees for) in order to prevent any inconvenience -

Your Gardening Permit does not cover grading sodding, curbing, tomb building, foundations, or any work not strictly gardening and I am directed by the Trustees to require a special permit for any lot upon which you do any work not gardening.

You may perhaps, understand the matter fully, but if not please provide yourself when necessary, with the permits & send them with the sod, loam or other material you wish admitted with the cemetery and leave the permit with the Engineer.

Respectfuly J.W. Lovering Supt
