Started some of our ground school courses. I believe that things are going to be more agreeable here than they were at Tours.

Sunday July 21 ‘18.

Lay around all day. Allies captured 20,000 prisoners and 400 guns according to todays paper.

Had classes in traps, pistol, sighting, and aerial gunnery.

voyage this afternoon. He started out with a rotery Rhone 90h. motor. He took off over the hangers and Sopwith planes and got up about 30 ft. when his motor died and he fell on a wing between two Sops, smashed his machine all to pieces, but didn't touch a Sop. He wasn't hurt at all, but it took two men to pull him out of the wreckage. Pete Winship got into a wingslip near the ground while landing when on his [deletion] voyage and smashed completly. He got a bad cut over the eye. Dan Currier, had another forced landing. This is the third time that he has started on his voyage. These machines are certainly deathtraps. They are all worn out, and you can never tell when the motor is going to quit. Under these circumstances you feel like letting the Major and his cohorts kick you out. Which they are trying their best to do. They watch every move

Had the Rhone motor this morning. When coming back at 10:30 Pete Winship and I stopped to watch a Liberty loop, rounversment, and wing slip. He did some beautiful work. He was up about 800 m and came down to 400 when he started wingslipping and finally came out into a nose dive. We kept waiting for him to straighten out but he never did. As a last resort he turned on his motor to try and lift his nose up. He
