with you. I have traveled a good deal in the last couple of weeks both on trucks train and foot, mostly foot work.

I guess your dad had a good time while he was on the convention at Santa Cruz. Elsie and Lena were down to Long Beach and had a great time. I guess you heard all about it. I certainly miss the good old times but hope there are better days coming.

We are all pretty well tired out after all our hiking and after the big drive we were in. It sure is hard work packing a machine gun over the field four or five miles at a stretch. Some times we did not have time to eat or sleep for 36 hours or more. You can not imagine what a strain it is on ones nerves. I never hugged the ground so close in all my life as I did when the shells started falling around us. You try to put your head in a whole and hide like

chance of me getting home for a time.

We have had a long hike and have now established our lines. It will be a long old hike back. I would not mind it if we were bound for home.

SAN DIEGO, CAL.

April 19, '20.

Dear Sweet heart,

I arrived here about five this morning. I left L.A. at midnight. I had a good trip down from the city but it was pretty tiresome. I reached L.A. about 8:45 Saturday morning and was met by Sorine, Harry and Elsie. Then we proceeded to Long Beach and had some thing to eat. In the after noon Harry showed me all through the S.W. Ship yards and it certainly is a fine plant. I may take a notion and go to work down here for Harry. Do you think you would like to come down here and settle down?

We spent all of Sunday riding around in the machine, we visited many points of interest and several of the beaches. Saw Culver City the home of all the movie studios and Santa Monica, Glendale and a couple of parks
