Dear mother

Your letter written on the 19th of april was received several days ago. Also rec'd one from Ida written a few days later. Our company has moved out of Niederbreitbach to this burg Kurtscheid. It is about five kilometers from Need a brick bat upon about the highest spot around here. We releived a company of the 32nd Division that was staying here. They are on their way back to the states by now I guess. We had considerable cold weather and snow here for awhile but the last week it has been real warm. Every thing is sure green and pretty now. All the fruit trees are bloomed out. Wish you were here to see the country

Think I owe you a letter if I'm not mistaken. Dont remember whether I answered your last letter or not. Just came off from guard this afternoon and sure am sleepy but was glad to be on at that as I missed out on the manuever they pulled off. You ought to have been here to seen it. Would have tho't the war was on again. Sent over a regular smoke screen of chemicals before the infantry & machine gunners advanced.

It sure scared the Heinies in this burg. The kids were all bawling and even the women were running around scared. Some of the shrapnel landed pretty close around some of the houses and I guess they thought
