Walter Hastings Esq.

Dear Sir

I have carefully examined your lot as now curbed & also the proposed addition as last reported by Col. Folsom & have come to the conclusion that the plan as shown by him, was the most feasible way to increase the size of lot.

Yours rerspectfully James W. Lovering Supt

Mount Auburn

John T. Bradlee Esq. Prest

Dear Sir

I regret to inform you that the Bridge across the two portions of Auburn Lake is unfit for service & in my opinion needs renewing. The timbers are old & unsound. I estimate the cost of replacing on the present plan at $325.

The cost of new benches for Chapel, similar to those now there will be $16. each.

Yours respectfully James W. Lovering Supt

Dear Sir

I find two of the [?] and the railing all so unsound that it will not pay to replace.

I estimate cost of replacing [?], planking and putting a railing of this pattern on at $115.00 [diagram: sideview of bridge] This form of railing is not so expensive as that now on the bridge, and is certainly as useful.

The cost of an iron bridge I estimate as follows 4 Iron Beams of I section with a wooden flooring 3 inches thick, width of bridge 15 feet and with a railing consisting of two (2) posts on each side

and 3 bars across [diagram: sideview of steel bridge] $225
The bars are simply round from tube, painted
the posts are of neat & simple design, about 4 inches
diam. at bottom and less at top.
Cost of changes in masonry, repairing road &c. 50.
If, in addition to the railing across the bridge $275
it is desirable to continue the railing five or
six feet beyond the bridge as each end, as in the
old one, the cost will be increased 75.
Total cost - estimated at $350

This is the cheapest iron bridge which we could put up, and I think as the repairs to the old one cost so much, will prove cheapest in the end.

Geo H. Chickering Esq.

Dr Sir,

I examined your tomb today & find that before we can put in the catacombs we must remove the arch, so that the work amounts to removing the present tomb and putting in a new one.

We are not in the habit of procurring marble or any kind of "finished stone" as the By Laws of the Corporation do no permit the Supt to do this.

I cannot therefore give you as reliable an estimate, but I judge that the cost of sixteen catacombs, with slate shelves & marble fronts and an improved entrance would amount to at least $3000.

Very respectfully J.W. Lovering Supt
