A monthly meeting of the Trustees was held on Wednesday, , at half past three o'clock P. M.

Present Messrs. Bigelow, J. T. Bradlee, N. J. Bradlee, Brewer, Lawrence, Little, Perkins, Pickering, Snow and Turner.

The record of the last meeting was read and approved.

Permanent Fund, proposed mode of increasing reported "inexpedient"

A Report was received from the Committee on Lots that it was inexpedient to take any action on the Superintendent's Communication of , relative to a proposed mode of increasing the Permanent Fund,

Voted, – that the said Report be accepted.

Testimonial to Dr. J. Bigelow Report in favor of Marble Bust to be placed in Chapel

A Report was received from the Special Committee appointed at the last meeting with regard to the proposed Testimonial to Dr. Bigelow, in the terms following; viz;

"The Special Committee to whom was referred the subject of a Testimonial to Dr. Jacob Bigelow beg leave to report: – that after a careful consideration of the subject, and consultation with Dr. Bigelow they recommend the passage of the following order

Ordered that the Special Committee on Testimonial be and they hereby are authorized to procure a Marble Bust of Dr.

Present Messrs. J. T. Bradlee, Choate, Lawrence, Perkins, Pickering, Snow and Turner.

The record of the last meeting was read & approved.

Bills of previous month approved.

The President reported that he had approved as correct the bills of the previous month, and read a schedule of the same.

Voted, – that the Report of the President be accepted.

Certified copies of deeds destroyed &c. Report of Committee

A Report was received from the Special Committee to whom at the last meeting was referred the request of Mr Richards for the supply of a certified copy of the deed of his Lot destoyed in the great fire, recommending "that the Secretary be directed to furnish Mr Richards with a certified copy of his original deed; and that the same course be taken with other like applications; also recommending "that the Secretary be authorized to obtain, at the expense of the corporation, such clerical assistance as may be necessary to carry this recommendation into effect."

Voted, – that the above Report be accepted, and the recommendations thereof adopted.

Dr. Bigelow Marble Bust of in the Chapel. Report of Committee

A Report was received from the Special Committee which was authorized at the Meeting of , "to procure a marble bust of Dr. Bigelow and cause the same to be placed in the Chapel at Mt Auburn;" stating that they had attended to the duty assigned them, and that a bust of Dr. Bigelow ^had been carefully executed by Mr Henry

This beautiful work of art has been formally transferred to the Corporation, and the Trustees have caused the following inscription to be placed thereon:—

JACOB BIGELOW STATUIT ET DEDICAVIT.

Detailed accounts of the transactions of the Corporation will be found in the accompanying reports of the Superintendent and Treasurer.

The Permanent Fund for the future care and embellishment of the Cemetery, has been increased by the deposit of $6,272.59, and with accrued interest now amounts to $143,882.34.

The Repair Fund has received during the year for new endowments $11,300, and now amounts to $90,478.41.

In addition to these Funds the Corporation has available assets estimated at $31,555.86, exclusive of real estate outside of the Cemetery.

At the last Annual Meeting the Trustees were instructed to procure a suitable testimonial as a token of appreciation of the long continued and faithful services of Dr. Bigelow as President and Trustee. After consulation, it was decided that the most desirable method by which the Board could execute the wishes of the Proprietors, was to cause a marble bust of their distinguished colleague to be placed in the Chapel at Mount Auburn. This plan was found to be highly acceptable to Dr. Bigelow, and the celebrated sculptor, Mr. Henry Dexter was intrusted with the execution of the work. His labors have been successfully completed, and the bust placed upon a bracket prepared for its reception in the Chapel.
