Dear Sned,

Just got home from the sanatorium a while ago. Both Martha Linderman Bates and May Helen Bates are fine. I heard the baby cry to-day for the first time. Martha has moved into room "A", and it is a great deal larger than the other, she can see the water from her bed. I stayed with her for about three hours. Carol came to see her for a few minutes. Your mother and Leslie came down also. Leslie got home last evening, he came up on

would love to go. I think we would have lots of fun. I asked mother if I could go and she said I could if you wanted me to.

Your father brought me home last night a little after nine o'clock, then he got Joc. Gee, I hated to get up at six this morning, it was raining and such a temptation to stay in bed but I didn't. After the rain stopped it cleared up and the day was wonderful. I stayed out at college all afternoon & studied history. When I got home went down to see Martha Linderman Bates & baby. Mary Helen Bates was sort of cross to-day Mrs. Lyon, (Lion? I don't know

way I am sorry it is over, I only hope I will be able to go back next semester. If only I come out alright in my finals everything will be O.K.

It has been a wonderful afternoon and I have had Mary Helen Bates out for about three hours. Martha Linderman Bates is not able to go up and down stairs much yet, she comes down to lunch and dinner, but she does not want to overdo. She and Joc are going to Mignon Henrici's wedding to-night. They were invited to the reception after the ceremony but are not going as it will be too much for Martha Linderman Bates. Their house is small and as she has asked over 100 guests to the reception

Saturday, 9: P.M. April 16, 1920.[1921]

My dearest Edward,

Well, to-day has been very exciting, Martha Linderman Bates and Mary Helen Bates came home. The folks brought them home early this afternoon. Your mother and father and I stayed with Martha Linderman Bates while Dad, Mother & Jocelyn Bates went over to get a baby carriage. It is a lovely one, gray wicker and it is lined with gray courderoy. The baby looks darling in her new little bed. She said she wished her Uncle Edward was here to see her in it.

Mary Helen Bates will be a big girl when you see her again. She is beginning to notice things now and is so cunning. Dearie, she is not too young to go out in her buggy, Dr. Burns said it was the best thing for her to be out doors these lovely afternoons, I am good at taking care of her as I have had so much experience with Jane & John when they were small. Last night Martha Linderman Bates & Jocelyn Bates went to the wedding. I took care of baby while they were gone. She was real good & slept the whole time.

It has been terribly hot to-day & I wanted to go swimming but the tide was out so we
