To the Mayor and Council of the City of Seattle: Gentlemen,

We the undersigned Citizens of the City of Seattle and residing in the vicinity of 12th and Olive Streets, do petition your Honorable Body to abate as a nuisance the continual playing of Baseball on Sunday, on Block 56 Heirs of Sarah A. Bell's Second Addition to the City of Seattle, thereby disturbing the peace and quiet of the Citizens of the said neighborhood.

388 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Feb 17 1888 Be it remembered that on this 17th day of February 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are present, to wit: Mayor Minor and Councilmen Furth, Green, Lake, Moran, Russell & Reitze & W. R. Forrest Clerk. The following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petitions of W H Reeves & others for a sewer in Seneca Street from the Bay to the alley between Third & Fourth Streets, read & referred to Sewer Com. Petition of M. V. Stewart for the return of certain grade taxes herebefore paid into the City Treasury read and referred to the City Attorney. Petition of A. F. Naher & others for permission to grade Sixth Street from Madison to Spring St. at their own expense, read and on motion granted. Petition of Mrs Celia Mitchell for the correction of her assessment, read and granted. Petition of James Kelly for permission to build a fruit stand on Washington Street in front of the standard Theatre read & tabled. Petition of Fred Wilhelm & others for grading Cherry Street from Fourth Street to Thirteenth Street, read and referred to the Street Committee. Petition of Seamens Friend Society for the abatement of a nuisance caused by a Sewer Corner of South Second & Main St, read & referred to Committee on Health & Police.

Application of F. D. Sprague for appointment on the Police Force, read and tabled. Petition of the L M Wood & others for grading Third Street from Depot Street to Virginia Street and Virginia Street from Fourth Street to West Street and building sidewalks on both sides of said streets read & refered to the Street Committee. Petition of T. H. Hackett for permission to move building across Madison Street read and granted. Petition of F E Sander & J. W. George for permission to tear away the old shed on the north side of Clancys old Livery Stable Corner Second & Main Streets and erect instead a two story wooden building, read & referred to Committee on Fire & Water. Petition of Adolph Krug & others for grading & building sidewalks on both sides of Vine Streets from its inter-section with Depot Street to the Bay, read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of J. W. Van Brocklein & others for grading Terrace Street and building sidewalks on both sides of said street, from its intersection with Mill Street to Thirteenth Street, read and referred to the Street Committee. Petition of Wm McCoy for permission to erect a boot black stand on South Second Street next to the Standard Theatre; read & referred to the Street Committee.

427 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Apr 6 1888 on the South West Corner of Front and Madison Sts. Adopted. From same Committee granting petition L.M. Wood and others for grading Third Street from Depot Street to Virginia Street and Virginia Street from West Street to Fourth Street and building sidewalks on said streets and directing the City Surveyor to submit plans and specifications for said improvements with a profile at the next regular meeting. Adopted. From same Committee rejecting petition of S.N. Sorenson for permission to move a house from the corner of Spring and Third Streets to Block 5 Sorensen's Additiion as it would obstruct the public streets for too long a period. Adopted. From same Committee recommending that the petition of Nat Bartlett for permission to build a house on Clay St near the Bay be laid on the table. Adopted. From same Committee granting petition of E.A. Turner and others for grading Lane Street from Eighth Street to Fourteenth Street and building sidewalks on both sides thereof, also directing the City Surveyor to establish the grade of said street and submit plans and specifications for said improvement at the next regular meeting. Adopted. From same Committee asking further time to report on petition of J. W. Van Brocklin & others for grading and terracing Terrace Street from Mill to Thirteenth Streets. Granted. From Committee on Fire and Water granting petition of A.E. Hauser and others for a new fire alarm bell at Engine House No. 3. Lake Union and recommending that the purchasing agent purchase a suitable bell. Adopted. From same committee recommending that the present Fire alarm system be abandoned as the same is useless for

437 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Apr 6 1888 Ordered that the plat of the Charles Addition to the City of Seattle be and the same is hereby approved. Ordered that the plat of Lewis and Gilman Addition to the City of Seattle be and the same is hereby approved. Ordered that the plat of C B Bagley's Orient Addition to the City of Seattle be and the same is hereby approved. On motion of Councilman Niesz the city surveyor is instructed to get the names of the owners of the property along the proposed Avenue along the Lakes. The city surveyor submits plans and specification for Bell Street improvement from Fifth Street the Seventh Street Also plans and specifications for Depot Street Improvement from the Bay to Fir Street; also plans ans specifications for Cherry Street improvement from Fifth Street to Thirteenth Street and on motion the same are all approved and ordered filed. Ordered that the examination and equalization of the assessment roll for Bell Street Improvement under Ordinance No 889; and of Birch Street Improvement Ordinance No 904; and of Fifth Street Improvement under Ordinance No 905; be postponed until Wednesday April 11th 1888 and that when the Council Adjourns it adjourn to meet on that date. Ordered that Jacob Cowan be granted permission to use powder in clearing lots for the period of two weeks.
