9 Oil Room Or Cellar. Describe where placed and how fitted. The oil-house is located within six feet of the tower and connected to it by a narrow passage. It is divided into two rooms; in one the oil butts are placed on cast iron stands covered with wood in the other room are closets for curtains, lens covers etc. Regulation 100 gallon oil butts—number. Ten Regulation 50-gallon oil butts—number. One 10 gallon oil cans—number. One Oil butts—how placed. On cast-iron stands; tops of stands covered with wood. Closets And Storerooms. Where placed, how fitted and used. All the supplies are stored in the oil-house in closets and on shelves. Damp or dry, suited or unsuited to the purposes for which they were designed. 24 Light and moderate breeze S.E. to N.W. these 24 hours with hail snow and rain squalls - Sea smooth - General duties for day - Barometer going up fast - Keeper went to Newport after mail I hear that there is a small Sloup on North beach about 2 miles that came ashore about the 20th of month.

25 Light to moderate and fresh breeze W. to S.W. these 24 hours - little damp during 24 hours - Sea smooth - 1st asst and M. I. L. Smith putting 200 galls of Mineral oil in Oil room. Today Keeper went up north beach to see [w]reck of the sloop - Keeper went to Newport to take the mail - Left station at 2:00 am.

26 Light S. to S.E. wind & calm first part of 24 hours with light rain showers - Last part of 24 hours light variable winds fair weather - Sea very smooth - Keeper and Mr. I.L. Smith went after razor clams. Keepers painting lantern floor stairs and watchroom floor black also getting stage ready to paint Bracketts - 1st asst went to Newport. Steamer Willamette Valley sailed today.

3 Moderate breeze to light N.W. and North wind these 24 hours clear fine and warm weather - Sea smooth - Had seven visitors today - 1st asst cleaning and painting in his quarters. Keepers also painting window sash in tower and oil room also chimneys of oil house and steps of dwelling and cellar doors.

Keeper and Mr. I.L. Smith went to Newport - Had 31 visitors - Mr. Meyers hauling annual supplies from Newport to station.

Left the station at 9:30 A.M. The O.P. Railroad tug crossed the Bar at 4:30 P.M. to look for a disabled steamer at was reported to be somewhere off Yaquina about 15 miles.

11 Light S. East wind these 24 hours with clear fine and cool weather. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day. Keeper returned to the station at 1:30 P.M. Steamer Willamett Valley arrived sometime during the night with the Steamer Maggie Ross in tow disabled and was towed into Yaquina bay have not learned the particulars yet.

Keeper & 2nd asst went to Newport. Keeper went over to collect date for makeing Wreck report about the diabled condition of steamer Maggie Ross. One man was found ded abord of her. Will probably get a correct report in a day or two and send to Inspector of district.

16 Moderate breeze to light wind S.E. to South with rain first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours light wind to moderate and fresh breeze S.W. with frequent rain squalls. Sea rough. Keeper & 2nd asst getting lice off of the hens and cleaning the hen roosts. Keeper Frank M. Plummer went to Newport to get the news about the Maggie Ross that was towed into Yaquina and make out the Wreck report about it. Keeper Frank M. Plummer left the station at 1P.M.

Keepers cleaning lamp and illuminating apparatus measures and oil brackets. 1st asst went fishing and to Newport. Had two visitors. Keeper and 2nd asst. repairing hen coop. The steam Schooner that was laying off the light Monday afternoon passed the light at 9AM coming from the north west went down to Yaquina bay and crossed in at 1:30PM. She seems to be disabled in some way.

6: Fresh breeze N.W. with rain & hail squally during 24 hours. Sea smooth. General duties for the day. Keeper went over to Newport to see and get a report about the steam Schooner Alare Blanchard that crossed into Yaquina Bay yesterday at 1:30PM. The Alare Blanchard became disabled in the gales that have been blowing off shore the 8 or 10 days. Sails blowed away waterloged and unmanageable. Andrew Carlson & Frank Ayede crossed the the Yaquina bay bar in a small boat went abord and piloted her into Yaquina bay. In crossing bar the chain on rudder brook and got afoul of

Sept 1: Light South wind with thick damp fog during 24 hours - Sea smooth - General duties for the day - Keeper and 2nd asst went to Newport to take mail - Had six visitors - U.S. Steamer Manzanita left Newport for the north at 11:30 A.M. to try and get a whistling buoy off of the beach at Nestugaah bay - Ste Manzanita probably passed the cape at 12 noon but 1st asst did not see her pass.

2: Light South to variable winds and calm these 24 hours first part of 24 hours cloudy but dry weather - Last part of 24 hours clear fine and warm weather - Sea very smooth - General duties for the day - Keepers showing visitors in tower - Had 20 visitors - 1st Asst went fishing - 2nd Asst went cathering.
