Friday Oct 23 1845 AM wholesail breeze and fair weather. Wind SSE Steering by the wind. PM the same. Man aloft raised a blow as he thought from sperm whale 3 miles off [lea?] bow 7 bells this morning. We squared the yards hauled up the mainsail and laid off for them, but they sounded and we see nomore of them. So ends these 24 hours.
