Sunday 5th AM Winds N W Clouds heavy PM the same raised fore sails we set our colours and they set theirs

Monday 6th AM very light breeze PM the same sails in sight yet one that kept on the same tack that we were We thought was a Sag Harbor Ship in the Afternoon it being almost calm The old Man took a notion to gain with her at 4 o'clock on board of her which we found to be the Laurens of Sag Harbor Capt Eldridge it being the first gain we have had since we have been out they have been in Port 3 times Reported Gem & Sperm Whale which made 80 barrells

Tuesday 7 AM Winds light N W PM Changeable Winds almost calm some what squally very warm

Wednesday 8th AM light breeze changeable winds PM Winds S E half South verry warm pretty near the line

Thursday 9th AM Winds blowing fresh from the South West quite Rugged ship ahead PM Wind the Same

Friday 10th AM Wind S W blowing fresh PM wind the same

Saturday 11th 1845 A M Wind S. W. by W With heavy Rain Good breeze P M Wind the same Rain Increases squalls through The knight

Sunday 12th AM Wind S W Good breeze Pleasant Weather Sail off the Weather beam at Day Light Continued there until half past 8 o clock raised her signal And we raised ours she ran along across our bow the Capt hailed us to know Who Commanded the Henry Capt Brown answered him and inquired the same of him It was the Hope of Providence R J Capt Heath 7 weeks out I[sic] Black fish He gave Capt Brown an invitation to come on board of him but Capt Brown refused as he was not very well so Capt Heath lowered away a boat and Came on board of us and Mr Sherman and His boats have went on board of them they gamed with us all day PM wind the same. Latitude 4 47

Tuesday 14th 1845 A M light winds from SW P M winds do pleasant weather Raised a sail off lea bow at 1 o clock at 4 o clock PM she ran down across our bow and spoke as she proved to be the Nimrod of New Bedford Capt Sherman 4 1/2 months out. She sailed in May run in to [?] some of her Crew bought the small pox a number of them had it and were very sick Turned about for home and got with in four days sail of home by this time the crew had got so much better that the capt turned about and started for N W at the time We gained with them the crew had got pretty smart Exceptt one or 2 of them they lost 1 man.

Capt Sherman hailed Capt Brown to know who commanded the Henry He answered him and enquired the same of him at which he answered and gave Capt Brown an invitation to come on board of Him but he returned the compliment with an invitation to come on board of us which he did and Mr Sherman our mate took his [boat....d? crew and went on board of the Nimrod they gamed until 8 o clock in the evening. This[?] the Nimrod took 1 sperm whale of 40.
