172 Lett all these be well dryed, & beaten to fine powder searced soe often till all the dross will lye upon one shilling, then make a possett of a pint, & boyle in itt a wallop or 2 as much of the powder as will lye upon a sixpence, if you be in your casting fitt; devide your possett into 2 parts; & add to each part halfe an Ounce of Syrrope of Roses Probatt Dr. Alme For the Splen Rx Pollipodie an Ounce, Ceterach, otherwise called Splenwort; hartstongue, Borage, Bugloss, & violatt flowers of each an Ounce; For to Heale Nipples For to little after Delivery Boyle a good many Marygold flowers in possett Ale made with white wine soe drink A Soueraigne Oyntment for an Ache wrinch bruise or swellinge Take a peck of Broome flowers, and something better take halfe a peck of bramble leaves that runn

Upon the ground 2 handfulls of Rosemary topps 8 pound of fresh butter mince your herbes & clarifie your Butter then putt your herbes into your butter & boyle them together till you think the strength of the herbes be boyled into itt; when you haue done take them of the fire and couer itt close & let itt stand 3 dayes & 3 nightes, then melt itt & straine itt through a peice of course canvass as hard as you can when you haue done that sett itt upon the fire and melt in itt the bigness of an Egge of wax; & an ounce of mace beaten let itt boyle till you cannot see any of your Juice of the herbes and in some of it put in a quarter of a pint of Aqua Vitae for it is good for cold Aches, & put into a pott & keep it for your use, put your Aches, & put into a pott and keep itt for your use, put your Aqua Vita onely into that whichwhich is for the cold Ache. A Preservation for ythe Lungs and to strengthen the Voice

First take half a pint of pure Esope water stilled with the Flowers, half a pinte of Colefoot water, a quarter of a pint of Horehound water distilled with for Lungs, and a quarter of a pint of the water of Endive, Mayden Hare, & Harts tongue distilled together, then have ready 2 or 3 ounces of English Lycorice scraped sliced & bruised, put thereto half a spoonful of anniseeds pickt & made pure 4 blew figges and twentie or thirtie raisons of the sunn stoned & cutt in liittle eices put these into the water & let them boyle till they come to a third part, then have ready some Sugar candy & some conserve of Burrage & 2 or 3 spoonfulls of the sirrup of violetts made in Marth very clean Let these be putt in & lett them boyle a good while, then lett itt run through a fine canviss cloath putt itt in Glasses and use itt att any time as Occasion shall serve 12 or 13 times together 2 or 3 spoonfulls at a time upon an empty stomakc

For a weakness in the Back

Rp of Corrall one ounce finely beaten and searsed of Amber the like, of Mastick a Quarter

175 Of an Ounce of Nutmegs one Ounce, of Acornes Cupps 2 ounces of Cinamon a Quarter of an Ounce of White Saunders one ounce, of red Saunders a Quarter of an ounce, of great Mace a Quarter of an Ounce beate all-these to fine powder; then take soe much Venus Turpentine, Rosewater & sugar as will work itt together ike past, that you make hereof little pelletts, 3 of these next your heart fasting & when you goe to bed at night, for 3 nights or 5 dayes together.

Take the pithes of 2 or 3 Racks of Veale, stamp them with 30 or 40 Almonds blanched & when they are beaten very small sett it on the fire with 3 spoonfulls of plantaine water, and as much red rose water, half a great Nutmegg sliced and as much double refined sugar or manus Christi; as will sweeten itt, and eat the Quantity of a Nuttmegg morneing and Evening

Rp one handfull of Knottgrass, one handfull of Ribwort otherwise calld long plantaine the Briskett of a Brest of Mutton 2 Quarts of red cows milk, boyle the herbes and the Mutton in the Milk; and let itt stand till itt be cold, and take of the fat drink of itt in the morneing fasting a pottenger full and eat noething in 2 hours after, and as much 88

A most excellent plaister for the Wormes

Take some herbe grace, & stamp ed in the juice thereof, dipp 3 peices of Leather in th juice and then take Aloes finely beaten then strew itt on the Leather, then make 4 plaistors and put the one to the Nabell, another to the stomack and the other to the paps. Probat, Ms Raye

An approved Medicine for the wormes

Take a good handfull of peach leaves and as much of saven, shred them small and boyle them very well in a quarter of a pound of fresh Butter straine itt & keep itt; the party must to

Annoynted round about the mouth or the stomach & soe downe the navell

A liter

You shall take the Gutts of a Bull, and dipp some Wool in itt, and lay itt upon the navell & itt will make the Wormes to come out of the Body.

To assuage the swelling of Womens Papps

Take black mint stampe itt and straine itt with swines grease & lay itt to the papp; & itt will assuage the paine

A Medicine for the Piles

Take a Bottleof runninge water & putt thereto 2 handfulls of Alder bark slices small, with the outward vine scraped of; till you come to the green boyle this to a quart, then straine itt, and dissolve into itt an Ounce of White Coppress, this being thus prepared, take some of it warmed against a fire blood warm, & dipp into the same a Clout fitt for the place greived, and apply it thereunto; as fast as one clout dryes dipp another & apply itt thus must you doe 3 dayes together

To make a Syroppe for one that is short winded

Rp an handfull of Hysope, one handfull of horehound, seeth them in a Quart of running water to a Pint, straine itt through a faire cloath and putt in sugar to make itt pleasant, use this Evening & Morneing, with a Lycorish stick 3 spoonfulls att a Time.

For one that is in a Consumption of Nature

Rp the pith of an Oxe, and a Quarter of an ounce of Currans beaten into powder, & 3 leaves of clary a slip of Rosemary, of Camomile; one slip of Nip, 6 dates the stones taken out boyle all these in a Quart of Malmsey till itt come to a pint; & straine itt give the patient to drink next his heart Probat Dr Sam : Aylme

A Restorative Water in Weakness

Rp 3 pints of new Milk, one pint of good red wine 24 yolkes of layd Egges; beat the yolkes with the Milk, and the wine, then put as much fine Manchott as shall suck up the Milk and wine. Putt the same in a Stillitary & still itt with a soaking fire; & take a spoonfull of water in your pottage or drink; this will recover a Consumption Probat

The Green Oyntment

Rp sage, rew, of each a pound, wormwood, bay leaves, of each of them halfe a pound Mellilott herbes or flowers, of Camomile, of the flowers of spike, of Rosemary, of Redrose leaves, of Snt Johns Wort, of Dill, of each of thse a good handfulls, of March mallowes two handfulls; All these herbes chopp as small as may be, & weigh them, what they weigh, put thereto the like weight of sheeps suitt, chopp itt as small as may be; mince your herbes and itt together; and stamp itt in a mortar to one substance, that there be noe suitt seen, but all Green. Putt itt in some faire pott, or pan, put thereto sweet oyle Olive, as sweet as may be, a pottle and a pint. These work all together in a pan with your hands to a substance, and cover itt close with Clay,

For Mouth Water

Rx Strawberry leaues, violett leaues, collenbine leaves, woodbine leaues, fine leaues Grass, & a little red sage, and one sprigg of Rew; then boyle them infaire water, then putt in a little Allome & honey, and let it boyle a wame or two, and soe wash the mouth & if uery soare, doe itt with a Cloath uppon a stick./ Rx these hearbes seuerally and proportionable & distill them & take some of the water dissolue in itt a little Allom some mel Rosarum, & is most excellent for the mouth or throate

To make a most Excellent Sear cloath good for any thing

Rx halfe a pinte of sallet Oyle & a penniworth or 2 of red lead & mingle them well together before you set them on the fire, then let them boyle together till itt be boyed soe much that a cloath dipped in itt will be as black as jett, & shine, and be stiff, which will be after 2 hours boyling then putt into itt a peice of Deers suitt, of the Quantity of a Wallnutt and then let itt boyle a little again, then take linnen cloath & dipp in itt, & lay them upon a smooth board or table & spread them with a knife & soe rowle it up uery close in rowles, & keep itt for your use; 89
