Date + Nut Torte Mary Ellis Ames Radio Recipe 12/26/34

Dissolve together 1/4 tsp. soda 1 c. boiling water - cool. Add to 1 1/2 c chopped dates Sieve together 1 tsp. bak. powder 3/4 " salt 1 1/2 c. flour Beat 2 eggs until light Add 1 c. sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 c. chopped nuts 1 tablespoon melted shortening (folding)

Pour into greased pan lined with wax paper. Bake in mod. oven 375 F for 45 min. Remove from pan while warm. Dust with powder sugar. - Make 1 large torte or 2 doz. buns.

Radio Kitchen Recipe - Nov. 15

Cook together 1/2 c. sugar 1/4 c. cocoa 3 eggs 1 c water Extract (vanilla)

In another bowl mix 1/4 c butter 3/4 c sugar 1 egg 1 1/4 c cake flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 " salt 1/2 c. milk 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Add dry ingred. alternately with liquid. (Begin + end with liquid) Put into unbaked pie shell + pour over the cake. Bake 350 - 40 min. Note: Strange thing is: when the baking is complete the choc. mixture is in the bottom.

Orange Cream Cake Mary Ellis Ames Radio Recipe - 12/19

Sift 1 1/2 c. sugar - add half to flour 1 c flour 1 1/2 c egg whites - beaten until foamy 1/4 tsp salt 1 " cream of tartar 1/4 " almond extract 1/2 " vanilla " 1 recipe orange filling 1 c. whipping cream 2 T sifted confec. sugar 1/8 tsp, vanilla extract 2 large oranges

Pour into ungreased angel pan. Bake in slow oven 275^o - 30 min; 325^o - 30 min. (Makes 10 in. cake) Cool. Cut into 3 layers, put orange filling between + cover top + sides with whipped cream. Orange Filling 1/3 c. sugar 1 T. lemon juice 1 T corn starch 3 egg yolks 1 tsp grated orange rind 1 tsp. butter 1/3 c orange juice (strained) few grains salt 1/4 cup water

White Fruit Cake (Given to me by Mrs. [Hemingway?]

1/2 lb. stale bread crumbs 1 c. scalded milk 1/4 lb. sugar (2/3 c) 4 eggs 1/2 lb Sultana raisins - (cut + floured) 1/2 lb Kadota figs (white) 1/2 c. citron (cut fine) 1 c walnuts (chopped) 1 c. pecans " 1/2 lb. almonds blanched + chopped 1/2 c. orange peel 1/2 c (2 slices) candied pineapple 1/2 c. candied cherries 1/2 lb. suet (chopped fine) 1/2 c wine [or? +?] brandy mixed 1/2 grated nutmeg 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 " mace 1/2 " ground cloves 1 1/2 " salt.

Flour fruits. Mix all together thoroughly and bake.
