On this eleventh (11th) day of April, A. D. 1901, before me, E. B. RYAN, a Notary Public in and for said City and County, residing therein, duly commissioned and sworn, personally appeared Chas. G. Lathrop known to me to be the person whose name is subscribed to the within Instrument, as the Attorney ... in fact of Jane L. Stanford and the said Chas. G. Lathrop acknowledged to me that he subscribed the name of Jane L. Stanford thereunto as principal ... and his own name ... as Attorney ... in fact.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and affixed my Official Seal, at my office in the City and County of San Francisco, the day and year first above written.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Notice is hereby given by Jane L. Stanford and the Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University, owners of the building and property hereinafter described, that S. H. Palmer, contractor, successor and assignee of R. P. Hurlbut, original contractor, under contract made and dated May 20th, 1899, between Jane L. Stanford and said R. P. Hurlbut, has ceased from all labor on said contract, leaving the work and labor to be performed thereunder unfinished and incomplete; that such cessation from labor actually occurred on the 14th day of October, 1901, and that no labor has been performed or materials furnished to said building, hereinafter referred to, under said contract by said Palmer or said Hurlbut, or any one else, from said 14th day of October, 1901, to the date hereof, a period of more than thirty days; that Jane L. Stanford is the name of the person who caused the work under said contract to be performed and that she was acting as Surviving Founder of the Leland Stanford Junior University, and for and on behalf of the Trustees of said University; that said contract is on record in the office of the Recorder of the County of Santa Clara, State of California, and is for the carpenters' and joiners' work, glazing and other work, labor and materials mentioned and described in said contract and the specifications to which reference is hereby made; that the said work and labor specified in said contract was to be performed on that certain building or structure known as and called the Natural Sciences Building situated upon a lot of land in the grounds of the Leland Stanford Junior University in the County of Santa Clara, State of California,

which said building is in course of construction. This notice is intended to be the notice contemplated by Section 1187 of the Code of Civil Procedure of the State of California, where there has been cessation of labor upon an unfinished contract. Dated November 18th, 1901. Jane L. Stanford, and Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University, by Chas G Lathrop, Attorney-in-fact of Jane L. Stanford and Business Manager for ea[ch] Trustees and University.

STATE OF CALIFORNIA) :- SS. CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO) CHARLES G. LATHROP, being first duly sworn, says: That he is the Attorney-in-fact of Jane L. Stanford and the Business Manager for her and the Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University, owners of the property described and referred in the foregoing notice; that he has read said notice and knows the contents thereof and that the same is true of his own knowledge; that he makes this affidavit for and on behalf of said Jane L. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Notice is hereby given by Mrs. Jane L. Stanford the owner of the property hereinafter described: (1) That the labour for Painting Twenty Houses hereinafter described, was actually completed on the Twentieth day of May 1901. That a cessation from labor on the Painting of the said Twenty Houses hereinafter described, for thirty days, actually occurred on the Twentieth day of May, 1901. That Jane L. Stanford the person who caused the above work to be performed and said Jane L. Stanford at that time Surviving Founder of the Leland Stanford Jr. University. That the property hereinbefore referred to is particularly described as follows: Twenty Houses. the property of the Leland Stanford Jr. University and is situated on the Campus of the Leland Stanford Jr. University, on Alvarado Row and Salvatierra Street, said work being performed by Stroner & Backus of Palo Alto, Cal.
