Mo 17 March Jesse Harrass got home from Nashville & brought letter from William dated 23 Feby

1862 March 17 Monday Jesse Harrass brought a letter from Thomas to Fanna I did not git to see it dated 23d Feby The pickets of the enemy & our own pickets shot at each other across Duck River at Columbia for about two hours Some 100 shots, the bridge being burned down & the river verry high they could not git near enough to do much harm to each other. All our Cavalry left this evening for Decator Col Biffle & Col Scotts Cavalry, Scotts is from Louisiana.

17 March) The Mair & Aldermen Sent a Flag of Truse to the enemy (by Wm B Wilson & Jas. Auton) ackowledging the surrender of the Town to the enemy, it was all the Citizens could do to keep the Yankeys from shelling the Town in consequence of shooting at them.

March 20 Our Cavalry burning the Cotton in the Southern portion of Maury County all they can find, & the enemy crossing Duck river into Town in Canoes

March 25 Brooks got home from Columbus Ohio seen Thomas about the 20th Inst he was well. William had gone to Fort Warren in Massachusetts with all the field officers taken at Donalson. Apl 3d Recd a letter from Thomas to Fanna dated 21st March he was well & had recd a letter from William from fort Warren Boston Harbor

1862 April 6&7 [hand pointing] The greate battle near Pitsburgh (Savannah) Tennessee took place Apl 6th 1862 (Sunday morning & Monday morning) Many thousands killed on all sides, more killed in this battle during the 2 days than was ever known before, upon the Continent. We Whipted them on Sunday & they Whipt us on Mondy, they lost more than us probably.

1862 Apl 8 The Federals took Island No 10 after a Seage of three weeks, 100 Cannon 300 horses & Mules greate quantity of government stores & 6,000 prisoners fell in to there hands.

May 1st Recd a letter from Thomas dated the 26y apl he was on payrole in Columbus he had recd a letter from William a few days before the were both well His letter is much more satisfactory & has releaved me verry much , the letter of the 22d was not verry concililary ----

May 1st Dr Ordway returned home from the prisons in the North, did not see William or Thoas but sent the letters by Adams Express, together with the Money to them from some place when he stept at in the North , see entry of Apl 8

May 1st (Some skirmigen near Pulasker 260 prisoners taken by the Confederacys with waggons & payroled & sent home.)

May 3. I see a letter from Capt Walker ^{to his father Jo Walker} from Camp Chase says all the prisoners have left that place on Monday the 28 Apl except V. Thompson Jo Dixon, 2 Walkers G W Gordon & T.L.Porter. The 2 Walkers Gordon & porter that was upon payrole has been sent back from Columbus to Camp Chase all the rest have been

May 5th I received a letter from William dated the 27 April, he had got my letter dated the I suppose he got my letter of the 17th Apl. the 1st he got from home

May 5. I recd a letter from Thomas dated 26 he got my letter of the 17 by Mail. the 1st he had recd from home

1862 May 4 I enclosed a letter to William, directed to Waldo Finch Esq President of the Eagle Bank Boston Mass. Edmond Cooper recommended me to write to Mr Flint & he would give it to William.

May 6 I also Inclosed a letter to Thomas directed to Majr Ballard Camp Chase Columbus Ohio, Edwd Cooper directed me to do so & Thomas would git it

May 10 Maryanne & all her children came on Thursday 8th and stayed until Saturday evening the 10th May

8th May Recd a letter from Tomey dated 4th May (Johnsons Island) Sandusky Ohio, he was well

9th May N. Ligget returned home says he left with Maj Pearson the Keeper of the prison at Sandusky $20.00 in U.S. Money 5th May for Thomas

12 May Sent a letter to Thomas the 12 May all upon the subject of taking the oat of Alegence
