Dr Sir
Your father, who is too much indisposed to write himself has requested me to inform you that Mr Lenox has consented to Administor on the Estate of Colo Campbell at the next Rockingham Court. Mr Lenox urged me repeatedly, and wrote to your to the same purpose to request that he would use his influence with you, that you would come to Leaksville to instruct him how to proceed with the [page damaged] ble property of Colo Campbell, previous to his Administration_ He seems to apprehend that every advantage will be taken of any false step he may make_ This property is much exposd; no person stays in the dwelling or Store house, the latter of which has allready been broken open and some of the goods taken out; most of which have been recovered_ I have my fears that Mr Lenox may fly the way if does not see you_ He insisted that I should take the last Deed of Tract with me for your inspection & which I now enclose to you_
Your father requests that Mr Boylan should enclose to you a writ returnable to the next Wake Superior Ct against the [admr?]. and the securities of Colo Campbell. This writ he wishes you to give to your brother James Ruffin before he goes to Guildford Court who, can from thence bring it to Rockingham Court, where it can be servd on the [admr?], Cap Barnet & myself_ His object in this is that a Judgment may be first obtaind against the Est of Colo Campbell, so as to bind all the property of the Est_ We nevertheless expect that the Bank will afford us all the indulgence they can, to pay off this debt- and by selling the property on a credit as long as the time given to us by the Bank, to get a better price for it__
If it should turn out so that you cannot come to Leaks-

I hold against William Underwood of Chatham County & long since due; a note for about $100.
I should wish if there was a probability of your collecting it, to trust it in your hands for the purpose, and have been advised to apply to you as a person acquainted with his circumstances if you think the money may be made, by a suit or otherwise, you will please give me a line for return of mail, and I will immediately enclose to you the note to do with it as you think best.
Yrs respectfully

Dear Sir~
I have, since seeing you, made a Settlement with Mr. Taylor with the exception of Thirty Nine Dollars & Sixteen Cents ($39 16/100) which sum remains unpaid & which I presume he will pay between now & the Ensuing County Court. Should he not however do so, I have to request that you will wait upon him and demand payment of that balance & should he refuse or procrastinate you will pursue such steps as will immediately compell him to a compliance_ Should you have occastion to refer to Mr. Jno Scott, he will afford you every necessary information as to the nature of the transaction &c._
Very Respectfully Yr Obt. Servant Wm. Nisbet

Dear Ruffin.
Ihad intended to write you a long letter this morning; but some Clients coming in, Ihave but a few minutes to write before the Stage passes on -
Isend you an Argument for the Defendants, in the Case of the Governor &c vs Matlock, which Ibeg you to submit - Surely this case must be decided for the Defendants -
Isend to your care a letter to Dr. [Butler?], & one to Mr Boylan.
Ihave entirely forgotten my Cases in the Supreme Court from the last Circuit. I would gladly prepare Arguments in each and had them to you on this day week, if Ihad the names of the Cases. Pray drop me a line by the return of the Stage on Tuesday evening, and give me a list of these Cases.
Is the case of Davidson vs Beard, or Davidson vs somebody else, gone up from Mecklenberg to this [Term?] - Mr A. Henderson and myself agreed to send up a case. Idraw it up, for him to spread out on the record at Mecklenberg at the last Term - It is a case involving the same question as Cowan vs Green. Whether a Judgment Condition seeing out his Execution & having it [levied?], twelve months after the execution of a Mortgage of Negroes, the Mortgage not being registered, shall not have his execution satisfied out of the Negroes. Whether the Mortgage be not void as to him - If this case has gone up, just state in your letter the precise Point. made in it - Iwill send on an argument immediately -
