Clear, warm, and pleasant -- 82º -- Morning rose at 6, wrote & mailed a 2 page letter to Gardnerville Record -- Was about town some -- wrote & sent page letter to wife & page letter to R R Crawford, Reno Ledger, dunning him for the $13.50 he owes me -- Rec'd 8 copies of the Seattle Daily Times of May 4 which I sent for -- gave some of them away -- Old Comstock Pioneer, Dick Sides died at Theodore Winters' ranch, Washoe Valley yesterday PM -- aged 75 years -- The graduating or commencement exercises at the State University closed yesterday for vacation, and many students came homeward on morning train -- The famous Wedekind silver mine near Reno sold yesterday for $175,000 to John Sparks the great cattle rancher -- Got my hair cut today -- Bed 12 -- One of the worst cases of lynching ever in California took place at Lookout, 12 miles from Alturas, Modoc County Thursday night when old Calvin Hall 72 yrs old, with his 3 sons, Frank 26, James 19, Martin 16 and D B Yantis, a friend or neighbor, aged 27 were all hanged by a mob of 40 masked men -- They were charged with cattle stealing,

Same -- Odd jobs at room -- Took dinner at 5 PM with Harry Day -- May Williams at their residence, & spent pleasant evening -- Bed 12 -- $2,500 already collected for carnival expenses & plenty more coming in or available --

Monday June 3

Same -- By AM train sent another brief letter to John W O'Donohue, Con Virginia office Virginia City asking bullion product, gold & silver of the Con Va and Ophir mines during 1900, also asking if he received the Mint Directors book I sent him -- PM I attended hearing before Judge Hawley US Circuit Court, of argument for continuance of temporary injunction in the Oregon Short Line railroad case against the Utah & California, or Clark line -- The injunction expired today, and P L Williams, chief Attorney of the Short Line Co, who arrived this morning gave the arguement -- Judge Hawley's decision will be given at 10 AM tomorrow -- I sent 210 words dispatch to SL Tribune in the matter -- Bed 11 --

Tuesday June 4

Breezy & cooler -- 77° -- Attended court -- Judge postponed his railroad decision till 2 PM, when he decided no new injunction to issue, but that plaintiff should notify dept to appear June 24 & show cause why further injunction should not be abandoned or granted, or in other words the

case has to come up in court then for trial and final adjudication & deciding which of the contesting companies shall win out on the very interesting railroad proposition -- I got off a 250 word telegram to the Tribune -- Rec'd brief letter from John W O'Donohue this morning containing desired information -- Bed 11 -- Van Duzer is in town from Winnemucca or Lovelock, proposing to get up a handbook of the counties of Nevada and their resources. Met W E Winnie Ex Dist Atty of Storey County on the street today -- Was born and raised on the Comstock but says the old lode seems gone past redemption so he will pull out for Los Angeles as his future home --

Wednesday June 5

Same -- Odd jobs figuring etc -- Bed 11 -- My brother Samuel H Doten, Plymouth Massachusetts is 89 yrs old today -- My Tribune special of Monday evening got published all right -- 31 lines -- solid --

Thursday June 6

Same -- Odd jobs -- made two new reportorial notebooks, 70 leaves each to fill my own old covers that Major Dallum gave me nearly 40 yrs ago, when I first started reporting for the Va Daily Union -- that pair of old covers has been my daily pocket companion ever since -- Bed 12 -- My telegram sent to the Tribune Tuesday evening, came back published all right today, in yesterday's paper -- 23 lines leaded double columns -- 46 lines --

Same -- Sent Seattle Times to Sisters Eunice and Lizzie -- Have sprained my left knee on inside or right side somehow, so it has been very lame last 2 days -- could hardly walk today, so stayed at home odd jobbing most of day -- Bed 12 -- Gardnerville Record had my last letter in -- about half of it -- 1/4 column -- Also sent copy of Seattle Times with editorial on my Mint Comstock article to Fred W Clough, Angels' Camp Cal --
