Governor of Utah Salt Lake City
Dear Sir I am informed that Joe Hill is to be executed on Oct 1st 1915 and I wish to say to you that I consider his execution to be rank murder a blow at liberty and a crime against the the working class of the United States. Why the ruling class should use such tactics is strange to me for such outrages only awaken the workers to the real situation. it is sounding the death knell of capitalism.
Very Truly Yours L.M. Cayton V.S. [signature] Liberal Kans.

To the Hon Gov. of Utah Salt Lake City. Dear Sir
I am writing you in behalf of Joe Hill of your State who now languishes behind the bars, Condemned to death. for what? on the trumped charges of murder & robery, because he simply would stand with his class in revolt & refused to cringe before the exploits of the working man's tail. I consider the execution of Joe Hill, if he is executed, to be rank murder, a blow at liberty & a crime against the working class of the United States.

2 The persecution of Joe Hill is a clear case of infamous injustice If Joe Hill can be shot for what he has done, any of us working men can be shot for asserting our rights & resisting the oppression of our capitalist masters. If there is no liberty for Joe Hill, there is none for any workingman. Such outrages & miscarriage of Justice, as this & others, like causes have driven me from the ranks of the Democratic party. (& many others also) from both old parties) to, the Socialist Party the only party that proposes to do any thing for the laboring Class.

I now implore & beseech you; for Gods sake, & for humanitys sake, to exercise clemency in this poor unfortunate mans case & spare his life. You have this power in your hands & at your command, & if you do not do this his blood be upon your head, May God help you to do your duty.
Resp. Yours etc,
