Sept 26/17 Dear Sis:- Your welcome parable of the 21st ult reached me today. Before proceeding with this chapter I want to express my thanks to you all for the parcel. Everything was in jake condition on arrival so needless to say it tasted even better than it looked. At the coming elections do not vote for a guy who won't promise to have the weight of parcels raised from 7 to 10 lbs. There is a chance for Aunt Mary to put some poor soul through a bombing raid. There is nothing you can send Sis because you know "Every little bit added to what one has etc." Last year I had enough stuff to supply a battalion but since then am glad to say I found a sprout of brain so am a little wiser, at least in this respect. Thanks very much for the offer though.

2/ If there is a disagreement between Uncle Scott and one Alonza Knowles, the betting is 9 to 2 on the former. I see you had a grand supper of newspapers spread on the grass. Some eat. Beg pardon, as I see something here about salmon + watermelon and cake. Pearl Ridleys man must be an exception as most men can talk before they are married, but after the fatal knot is tied they couldn't drive a word in with a piledriver. Am surprised at the censor crossing out that word, but guess the best we can do is to imagine he is a punching bag who will not hit back. Don't blame you for remembering it was baking day when potato bug picking was on the syllabus for the day. Next time you'll get Medicine and Duty. You can send my mail t 4th Canadians "A" Coy B.E.F. France, but I think it amounts to the same thing in the long run.

3/ You know I'm a private now. I think Ione is busy practicing mock marriages but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Well Sis have been re-initiated into the "bang" lodge again which means the line. We were favored with fine weather and sometimes with considerable attention from Fritz, but I'll bet he got a belly full when he started feeding us. I got quite a few souvenirs and send them to Ione as I think she was curious to see something Fritz, and as one of the articles did not look any too nice, guess the curiosity will "partie." I went over to Olivers residence a couple of days before we were relieved, and he was jake with the exception of a dirty face and an awful growth of whiskers. Found a book in a dugout which had been sold by a bookseller in Tokio Japan.

4/ The last few days have been down the line shooting in a Corps shooting contest. Sorry to say the result wasn't gratifying, but at the same time it was something to make the team. I think there was a mistake about Oliver not going, but these things do happen even in the army. While there, had a fine rest and the use of a plunge bath. A good theatrical troupe were there so they sure did help to pass the evenings pleasantly. Two of the crowd were dressed as girls, and from a distance looked as if they were worth making love to. One of the songs that were sung made me as lonesome as the -- The scene was an officer in a dugout with candles alight, and his wife or sweetheart in her home with electric lights and every comfort. The song went over the phone, and it was the wonder of the
