now of course he can't see us. He incidentally, continues about the same, but a little better than one day when he was very near death's door. So mother had Dr. Reynolds come in and look us over and he thot [thought] my throat was getting on very well, but discouraged my going calling and said things about going easy and staying in – so what with that and similar admonitions received by letter today, I suppose I must abide by them. Oh I had Montie buy a "Sunset" and read that article. I hope you'll let me see your answer.
Now look here C. Edward H. – I dislike thinking of you losing sleep on my account – of course I know it was the coffee – but your thots [thoughts] wandered. She's not worth it, you know, really (and that's not for you to dispute) and how can you get your work done when you get tres fatigué. Someone will have to be telling you to take naps.

Monday Afternoon
Dear You,
Last night I came in to find Montie reclining gracefully on the davenport.
"You're well" says he – so there was nought for me to do but draw up a chair. Uncle Bob greeted me with a frown and a murmur about "You're expelled from the society for a week." They had made twice as much supper expecting two hungry people to help

eat, as mother had intended to ask you to supper but wasn't downstairs when we went out. Bob doubts my eligibility to his society and claims I'm not disinterested. I asked what the fine was and he says we'll take it up the next meeting.

Roberta brought her and "parked" her with us while she went to a party. The child hasn't been very happy in spite of all my fascinating ways. Once I just swore at her and went down and played the piano which appeased her.
You must have been well on your way last night before I went to sleep – and I hadn't been drinking coffee or tea, either.
You'll be in town before long perhaps, but just the same I thot [thought] I'd fool you and right [write] to greet you when you get back some time tomorrow.
