Thurs Oct 3 Clear and pretty fair in the morning but it got pretty rough in the afternoon and att [at] about half past four it began to rain and kept it up all night I think. We staid [stayed] at Charleys last night and took the morning train for Loveland. It was nice there in the morning but in the middle of the day the wind blew and it was cold too but we saw the sights at the fair all right. Took the train in good shape about 7 O clock and got back to Charleys a little before 8 visited awhile and went to bed at home. Dave and Timmy hauled hay and cleared the piece in the NW corner.

Fri Oct 4 Nasty day. It drizzled about all day so of course it got pretty wet. We staid [stayed] at Charleys and kept dry. Dave went over to town and brought out Meda so he had company and a cook.

Sat Oct 5 It was cleared off this morning only sort of foggy and it has been a very nice day but towards night it looks stormy again. Dave came over to town and brought over the butter and done some trading and brought out Mother and me so we are at home again.

Sun Oct 6 Clear and nice with just wind enough to dry things out pretty fast. We had the peddler Mr Baker to day. He came last night and stays over Sunday with us. We kept Sunday pretty quietly and didnt have much company either.

Mon Oct 7 Nice day but evrything [everything] is quite wet yet. Dave and Mr Dixon and Timmy put 4 good loads of hay into the barn loft. I tinkered around at several small jobs and this afternoon I have had a little start at a hand cart. Wilse came out and brough [brought] out the word that Meda was sick with the Typhoid fever was taken last night.

Tues Oct 8 A beautiful day all of the way. Dave went to take Charleys buggy home this morning then I dont know what he did do after that but rather think that he went to the Spring Canion [Canyon] ranch to exchange old Nell for Bonny but he has not come back yet. I put in a pretty busy day at the hand cart and got it so that I think I can see the end of the job.

Wed Oct 9 Nice again and it is getting quite warm. Dave and I gathered apples to day [today]. We gathered the fall apples about 250 lbs in the forenoon and gathered about 1,100 lbs of yellow Bellflowers this afternoon and from [6?] trees.

Thurs Oct 10 Nice again. We worked at the hay until about 10 O clock then gathered apples. Have got them all picked but the Ben Davis's and got 12 bush [bushels] of them picked.

Fri Oct 11 [Lign?] We shocked up the hay in the forenoon and in the afternoon Dave went to town and brought out Ida and done some other errands. I have been bothered very much with my rupture so I didnt try to do much this afternoon.

Sat Oct 12 Very nice again. Dave went and hunted up our stock and got them in all but a spotted calf that we call Mastadon and I dont know whether we will ever find him or not. He picked some Ben Davis apples this afternoon and I fixed the west box south of the house and set it to tulips and that was about all that I did do.

Sun Oct 13 Fine again. Dave went up to the ranch to day found things tolerable fair. I kept Sun [Sunday] with Mother Nancy Kendall and Ida Dotts but after dinner I went to try to get a hand to help stack the hay but couldnt get one. Ida run off a couple of boys with a part of a sack full of apples that they had stole from our orchard.

Mon Oct 14 Rather on the clear order but most too Windy to haul hay so we done some other jobs. Gathered apples some. Fixed for filling cistern some. Cleaned the cistern out and I helped at the threshing of the oats at Windy hill. They measured 243 bushels and Mr Larimers share was 81 bush [bushels].

Tues Oct 15 Just lovely. Dave and John somebody hauled and stacked the hay from north of the house 5 loads and then they hauled 2 loads of punkins [pumpkins]. I filled the cistern with nice clear water and picked 14 baskets of genetings and had more bother with my innards a coming out than I like.

Wed Oct 16 Splendid to day again. Dave [and] John Struve hauled a load of straw and then brought down the oats 81 bush [bushels]. Then they plowed a place to bury the apples and potatoes and dug potatoes the rest of the afternoon. I didnt do much I am sorry to say. Will Case and his better half were here on a flying visit to day. They seem to think well of Colorado and wish they could see more of it and so do we. I have got through with Mr Struve and Dave is going to take him to town to night.

Thurs Oct 17 Fine again. Dave went down to Mr Covingtons and got our stray calf so we have them all in now. Then he went to see what he could do with Mr Larimers oats and some of the apples but Collins is a very poor market for anything that is raised by the farmer. I worked at the apple business and finished picking the janitings and buried the Lawvers and the ganetings and churned etc.

Fri Oct 18 Clear but rather windy and sort of cold and smoky. Dave finished gathering the apples and we loaded up what he was going to take to town and after dinner he went to town and carried over the apples and brought out Meda. I dug the potatoes West of the Ice house and helped get the apples ready to take to town and buried ten bushels of Ben Davis apples and picked up most of the potatoes.

Sat Oct 19 Somewhat cloudy this morning but it cleared off and was quite nice the latter part of the day. We finished digging and buried our potatoes. Had 22 bushels and they are very nice too. Will Dixon has begun his potatoes to day and we brought down and put in to the grainery 11 sacks of them and Will took home 22 sacks.

Sun Oct 20 Pretty nice but the wind was rather raw some of the time. Dave and I went to look over the work at the lower end of the reservoir and think they are getting along with it pretty fast. We then went to see Mr Giddings orchard and eat dinner at Mr Dixons and Dave got a horse from them to ride up to the ranch tomorrow. Mr Heath and Mr Roberts were here this afternoon. They praised the apples very much.

Mon Oct 21 Cloudy all day with a wind pretty strong from the North East but it didnt rain only sprinkled a little. Dave went up to the hill ranch to help dehorn some of the cattle up there and has not got back yet. I have chored around pretty steady to day.

Tues Oct 22 Cloudy and cool all day but didnt rain. We sorted and buried 35 bush [bushels] of Mr Larimers potatoes after Dave came home. I fixed the barn doors in the forenoon before he came and to night Mrs Randall and I churned and it took us a long time too.
