Understanding from the Friends of Mr Wm Brady that he is an applicant for the appointment of Secretary of State, and having been requesteed to state to you my opinion of Maj Brady- I can state that from a very partial acquaintance with him, I have no reason to beleive [sic] that he is other than a Gentleman, and from the representations of Men in whose statements I have Confidence I am induced to beleive [sic] that he is a Soldier a Gentleman and Capable of performing the duties of the office.

It having been communicated to me by the acquaintances of Colo Brady that he is or will be an applicant for secretary of state; and having been requested to communicated to you my opinion about him as regards his talents and other honorable qualificati =ons - I will suggest that I have no hesitation in giving it as my opinion or saying, that I have for a long time been acquainted with Colo Brady & believe him not only to be a Soldier but a gentleman & qualified to discharge the functions of any Civil office that he would accept of -

Dear Governer [sic]
in consequence of the resignation of T J Campbell atto General for the fifth solicitoral district it necessaraly [sic] devolves upon your Excellency to fill that office I think & would recommend N. Haggard as a very fit lawyer to be vested with the trust both from his experience in that respect as his place of residence among us he has heretofore acted in that capacity in the absence of T J Campbell and proved himself competent to the task as well or better than any we have had in that office
