A genus of trees and shrubs of at least 23 species, all native to South America. The bark of several species yields quinine and other alkaloids that were the only effective treatments against malaria. Aka "the Bark", Cortex Peruviana, Cort. Peruv., Jesuits' Bark, Quinquina, cinchona, "China", Kina.
