97 — 1885 — — Cambridge, Mass. May 17 — This P.M. J.J. Greenough & I took a walk. The weather was clear and cool. Nature is beginning to look green at last though the trees have scarcely begun to show their leaves. We walked to the Powder House, Medford and then to the Reservoir at Tufts College. We then went to the Water works a short distance beyond the Reservoir where we saw some fine pumps. Then we recrossed the Mystic River to Arlington and thence home. Hierochloë borealis, Roem. & Schultes. I found this grass in a very wet meadow by Mystic River, Medford, by River St. I have never seen the grass growing before. It was not abundant.
