121 — 1885 — — Westmore, Vt. — — Willoughby Lake — — July 30 — A most beautiful day. This A.M. Messrs Churchill, Chadbourne & I started out and walked along the shore of the Lake 4 m. to the Tavern. Then we took the road to Long Pond and some 3 m. farther on. At the Mill we got a boat and crosses over to the other side. A short walk through the woods took us to Nigger Pond, a small muddy piece of water. We found a boat there and paddled about some little time. We found a few water-plants. We found a good many Potamogetons, but they were too young. Returning to the Tavern, we came home by Steamer. The Sparganium was abundant in one place in walk between 2 & 3 ft. deep fl. stalks just out of water & a foot or so of the leaf floating. The Chara covered the bottom of the pond where we rowed in great abundance in water 2 & 3 ft. deep. It had a very strong & disagreeable odor.
