Messrs Churchill, Chadbourne & I went into the swamp a short distance back of the Hotel and botanized till dinner-time. The swamp is rich in vegetation. Lobelia kalmi, L. Borders of a swamp. 117 — 1885 — — Westmore, Vt. — — Willoughby Lake — — July 20 — A cool bright day. This A.M. Mr. Churchill & I botanized in the bog back of the Hotel. In the P.M. we walked down the road to Cedar Swamp, about 1 1/2 m. We botanized there till o'clock. Spent the evening with the our plants. Geum rivale, L. } Aspidium cristatum, Swartz. } var. clintonianum, D.C. Eaton Ribes rubrum, L. Damp wood. Veronica americana, Schwein. Liparis loeselii, Richard A. 118 — 1885 — — Westmore, Vt. — — Willoughby Lake — — July 27 — A most perfect day. This A.M. Mr. C. & I took the steamer to Westmore and spent the day till 5 P.M. botanizing on that side of the Lake. We went to the outlet of the Lake and then struck into the woods, keeping in them most of the time. We returned to the Hotel by steamer. Habenaria orbiculata, Torr. } Goodyera repens, R.Br. } Listera convallarioides, Hook. } Laportea canadensis, Gaud. } Gylceria elongata, Trin. } Aspidium aculeatum, Swartz. var. braunii, Koch. Deep moist woods, Westmore. Spergula arvensis, L. } Aralia racemosa, L. } Westmore. Roadside near the Lake. 27 Carex scoparia, Schk. } Open field, low ground. Westmore (Fide L.H. 119 — 1885 — — Westmore, Vt. — — Willoughby Lake — — July 28 — A clear bright day, warm in the sun, but very comfortable in the house. We staid at home to-day to rest and fix our plants. The P.M. Margie & I strolled to the pond back of the Hotel, where we gathered a boquet of wild-flowers. This evening Mr. & Mrs. Kennedy, Milton arrived. We had a very pleasant evening with them. They leave early to-morrow A.M. Strolled down to the Lake after tea. 41 Botrychium matricariifolium, Al. Braun (Fide L.H. Bailey jr from similar specimens sent him growing with these.) Dry open hillside, some dozen specs. found. Phalaris arundinacea, L. Fruit, Bog. 36 Chara intermedia, A.Br.² (Fide Dr. T.F. Allen from similar specimens sent him growing with these). Muddy pond back of the Hotel.

120 — 1885 — — Westmore, Vt. — — Willoughby Lake — — July 29 — A very rainy A.M. Spent a profitable morning with my plants. This P.M. it cleared and Mr. Churchill & I took a walk down the road between 3 & 4 m. towards West Burke, botanizing on the roadside. Rhamnus alnifolius {alnifolia}, L'.Her. Habenaria hyperborea, R.Br. Wet ground, border of Cedar Swamp. Pteris aquilina, L. Roadside. This fern seems to have a very strict growth here.
