Corol 5 — oblong accuminated patent petals, with ye apex inflected or turned up — or rather curled inward

Stam — like ye wild & Withering —

Pistil — Germen below — but has a flat circular crown above which appears like a germen, — like ye wild — but is green in this kind — & very large — & emerginated. Styles, 2 short & reflected — Stigma blunt —

The flower of a light green — ye petals only having some wt of a light colour. It may be ye English, im= =ported

The Root is very large —

The Stalk very large smooth — hallow, sometimes 2 inches in diameter. It is I presume ye largest anual plant I have ever seen in this country — 7 or 8 feet high — very much branched exceeding beautiful & grand — It is often cultivated in garden but is found wild — Smell very considerable, sweet & Leaves agreeable

37 Another speaces — Much like ye Beverly Angil= — only ye leaves divided into 4 large lobs — & ye lobs deeply notched — & serrated — (Seeds very very large, flat, like parsnips, this I believe same as Beverly). — Not so high — found down toward of farms — maybe ye same but of a browner completion —

June 24th No. 158 — Another species wild — Rundels ye same only more open — ye lower stalks flower stalks ye longest — so as to make ye surface nearly even. — Rundlets a little globular, forming a small segment of a globe.

Corol — appears inverse by heart-shaped & having a very sharp pointed, inflected — patent — Anthera globular & compressed or have 2 stria one on each side —

Pistil — Germ. or crown very large rotate, exam — further —

Root — A number of ovate tuberose roots — swelling just below ye stalk & yn terminating blunt with small fibres It has also cylinder

38 cylinder roots, spread. & tapering —

Stalks rather slender, not larger yn ones finguer — round smoth with appearance of a green stria on stripes — hot to be felt — or seen to be indenta — Very much branched grows 5 or 6 feet high, hallow The leaves have stalk is sent off with broad claw & husky hallow claw, at con= cave claw — out of which is ye branches rise — it is 1/2 inch long & sends off 3 divided into 3 leaf branches pedicles — on 2 lateral stand two, on central 3 oblong long, narrow ovate leaves, with acute apex & very for beautifully serrated

It grows very common in moist ground, on banks of brooks & rivers & in dry meadows —

The flowers are snow white & large — The plant very elegant —

The smell is of It is very agreeable sweetish, spicy smell, The lower leaves have several set of branches & several set of pinnae on a branch — with an odd one.

39 June 24th No. 159 — Purple weed Pea — Much like yt discribed page 27 — only — that

Tube of calyx longer — segts long slender, & nearly equal

The prop — very small on ye under side a dark purple, shining spot wh seems to be ye nectarium —

The standard not so much reflected, & not so round —

The blossoms are very small — Wings & keel — very small — The flower opens but little —

Stam — very short from ye tube —

Otherwise same

Stalks angular — leaf stalks flat on upper side — terminates in 4 or 5 tendrals leaves stand alternate — sharp point at end of each leaf — Other wise same

Blossom pale red & purle mergin of standard of a blue
