The intake temperature of the disk heat exchanger is 89.5°F (should be 90°F). The output temperature is 65°F (should be 65°F). The heat exchanger water flow is 1.5 gal/min., which is also normal. Everything appears normal on the water chiller; i.e.; the vanes are almost closed, the blower is running, and its heat exchanger fins appea un-cloged.

The thermostat for the water chiller alarm is set at 50°F. The temperature of the chiller water was determined by decreasing the thermostat setting until the chiller alarm went on. T=47°F. I looked thru the Librascope Logbook to find out what the normal chiller water temperature should be, and where the thermostat should be set. There are two references: p age 19 (10-13-67) and page 52 (1-30-68). The pertinent information is shown below:

From Pg. 19 10-13-67 [mostly illegible]

From Pg. 52 (1-30-58) 0930 Chiller [?] service [?]

1200 Chiller now runs @ 49°F ± .25°F

1350 Wrote whole file with [?] opened Robert/Shaw valve 1 position = 91°F

1415 Read error [?]

1430 Opened valve second position = 3 [?] = [?]°F

At 1130 the chiller alarm went on again. The water temperature was checked and found to be 50°F. Also B.P. was sitting in front of the vanes of the chiller. The temperature did not drop after he moved

away. After 10 minutes the temperature dropped 1°F to 49°. The chiller vanes are still almost closed. We 1145 are now putting a recording thermometer on the chiller water manifold in the disk. The water flow is now 2 gal/min. The automatic flow valve appears to be almost closed.

1200 The chiller thermostat has been changed from 50°F to 55°F. We will keep an eye on the temp. recorder. If the chiller water temp. is drifting, we should call the chiller repair service to check it. Meanwhile the chiller water temp. is considerably below the 70°F - Electronics turn off temperature, so there is no reason why we can use the disk. THe electronics was turned on at about 1030 and has been operating on read only without errors (Inhibit Read Compare is on.). J. Gleason

Have just picked up our Triplet meter which has been repaired and calibrated. Also picked up the 1A1 Plug-in which was also repaired and calibrated. J. Gleason

1515 The chiller water temperature has been 53°F±1° for the last 3 hours according to the chart recorder. The chart recorder reads 5°F higher than the thermostat for the chiller water, i.e.; when the chart recorder reads 53°F, the alarm will ring when the thermostat is set to 48°F. The thermostat is still set at 55°F, which is 7°F higher than the present operating point. J. Gleason

While running the disk system got a parity error indication from the 167. Relavent lights are as follows: Par Err, CHC=3, INIT, I/O, PIA=6, BR=0, SR=774003 777760 WCMA = 777600 023253. Using the Examine switch showed that location 023251 had bad parity. DATA = 774003 777760. Parity bit was on.

MAG TAPE seems to be giving trouble 3.15/02 -/05 & -/09 all have trouble reading FAILSAFE types. The MAGTAPE diagnostics MAGTST and 516/545 test both have no problems with scratch tapes. We have not yet tried the tapes in question on write because we still hope to get the data back.

The way the system behaves suggests that possibly the motion control delays are mildly maladjusted in a way that shows up only under FAILSAFE's particular timing. DOOM SRR

Have replaced the red clip lead on the 166 between 1J11-L and 2L8-K (with a green wire).

Have run margins on the 166 using T.S. Main. Two-thirds of the way thru the tests it was discovered that the test program changed sometime earlier. The program was reloaded and the margins were repeated on Bay 2 of the 166, but not Bay 1. The margins recorded for Bay 1 are believed to be incorrect, so they should be repeated next Thursday.
