Replaced spacewar buttons 32, 33, 34, + 35 with new switches. 32 + 34 are greyhill; 33 + 35 are Microswitch.

Put relay in HV power supply of QI. Now when HV is turned on and off, primary of supply is switched causing HV to be brought up slowly and eliminating switching transients. Tried to operate eye with no luck. Noticed No High freq. audio noise from camera which is usually present from deflection coils in raster mode. Then a large puff of smoke happened. Found that unprotected output terminals of the + 28V 20A had been shorted out by the HV supply above it in the rack. The supply powers the deflection coil drivers. Power supply damaged in regulator section - at least one resistor and one capacator are blown. DAMN.

Disk system up. EDIT2 [?] worse than usual. C command followed, for example, by 5C type 5C instead of going into the proper mode. nK give xNLNx or garbage and will not bill. Old system loaded

Yesterday the system died in a mysterious way: The first thing that was noted was that the DEC TAPES would not respond to anyone's command. (Pierre had been using the MAG TAPE, but it was not running when the DEC TAPES failed to respond.) Shortly after, the system restarted itself without the help of any bystanders! The system did not really restart, however. A 140 restart and a 143 restart was tried, but to no avail. We then loaded 16K DEC DUMP and ran BLT for 5 minutes without any errors. We then ran T.S. Main for 5 minutes, and again had no errors. We also ran Instruction Test Part 3 (which is not included in T.S. Main) for few minutes and got no errors. We then loaded System 2.08 and everything operated normally. The reason that the system died is still a mystery.
