Oats / Plowing verry tedious. We finished plowing in the long field I went to Town in the evening The Confed Soldiers are cutting up in Maryland and Pennsylvania & round Washington destroying property &c &c.

Th 14 Moore / McBane I have reported the man Moore for his destruction of My cedar timber on last Monday He is or pretends to have a government contract He has left first to Nashville & now to Athens Alabama.

I have also had his Superintendant John McBain sent for & to answer on next Tuesday is the day set apart for to hear the case

Friday 15 No news I stayed at home all day We are cleaning out our Cotton & working with our Oats. No important news

Sat 16 Salt I went to Town The Rebbles in Mariland are returning back Nothing verry particular only scrimaging severely between the Armies verry severely - I got my Salt 2 bbs home that I got at Nashville

Sun 17 Horse The morning is clear Two soldiers came into the Spring lott & took out Williams horse but left him No important news

Mon 18 Maryann / Leftwich I went to Town Maryann lost her pocket Book with $70.00 The Leftwich are on tryal for harbering Gurillas All hands quit work & is trying to work for themselves No particular news

Tu 19 Mary I went to Town Margaret went to get her teeth fixed I learn that 4 of Marys boys have again run off

1864 July Sed 20 Leftwich I went to Town No particular news They tryal of the Leftwichs are still on hands for harboring Gurillas progressing very slow

Th 21 Mary I went to Town No particular news two Wagon loads of Cotton was stopt two bales of Maryanns Cotton was in it We got it all fixed right & the Cotton went on Woodside got mad about it

Fr 22 horse I stayed at home all day got but little News I found my horse that I had bought of the Government that had been gone for about 2 Months at Raines I found him on Wed 20 Inst. He had traded for him from a Negro, Anthony, belonged to N Gillespie

Sat 23 Leftwich I went to Town Some excitement about the trial of Leftwichs on the account of receiving Negro evidence

July Sun 24 The morning is clear & verry cool for the time of year William & Margaret went to Meeting

Mon 25 Mary / Margaret I went to Town I met Mary there She has never found her money lost $70.00 Margaret went to Town with me & got her teath finished working on It cost $45.00 I paid it. Dr. Johnson done it. News they are hard fighting at Attalanta Georgea. Green & George leave in the morning

Tu 26 The Jail was broke open last night & a number of prisoners got away amongst them Tom Williams & Thos Leftwich Jur Mrs Reynolds is sent up to Nashville for tryal There are greate excitement about the war at Attalanta A tearable battle hundreds

1864 July Wed 27 Bugga Green George / Commenced Work in Town / Contract With Col Wilder & Self / George Green fighting I have stayed at home trying to fix my bugga Finished halling up our Oats & repairing the fence to keep the stock out of the fields Green & George commenced work in Town yesterday the 26th Inst Stone Mason Work at $2.50 per day each & Col Winder will not let them be taken away and they furnished them rations & they are at liberty to come home every night if they chose John Stratton witnessed the agreement between Col Wilder & me George came home to night says Green & him is doing verry well in Town & verry well satisfied Awful fighting in the front at Atalanta, Georgia. No particulars.

Thu 28 We are trying to make a turnip patch - repairing the fence &c it is trying to rain, sprinkling a little it is greatly needed every things wants rain & extreamly dry.

Friday 29. rain / Anthony / Turnips We have had a tolerable season The fighting reported a few days ago has not been reported yet yet. We finished plowing our turnip patch. Anthony is at work with Green & George.

Sat 30 Polk I went to Town got home at one Aclock No verry particular new L J Polk was bailed & come home this morning No important news

Sun 31 I stayed at home all day Williams horse was stole out of the lott last night

Mon 1st Augt. horse / Z Smith I started this morning verry early upon the hunt of Williams horse Sault went with me. I found him at Z. Smith after a severe days hunt There is several I implicated Sparks Erwen Voss & Z Smith and his boys all was interested in stealing & hiding the horse I have not the least doubt. All such raskles ought to be in the penetentary

1864 Augt. Tu 2nd Turnips / rain / Margaret / New Tyer for bugga / halling Wood We had another rain yesterday it is greate for our turnips which was sewed yesterday Not verry well put in the best we could do Margaret left this morning for Lawrence in Williams bugga & his horse with Jacks Wife & Child in the bugga with her Georg (Jacks brother in law) rode the little Gray stray mule & went with them Margaret drove the horse & bugga. I am staying at home to day I got the body of my bugga broke yesterday & trying to mend it. I got new tyers for my bugga from Nashville $10.80 Weighed 90 lbs Not putting them on yet. Jack Patton & Anderson is a halling Wood 2 horse Wagon to Town $3.00 pr load

Wed 3rd Augt. rain & wind I went to Town returned home for dinner A terable rain & Storm over took me near Orrs brought me to a stand still until

fighting / it calmed a little I got verry wet. News of heavy fighting at Atalanta Go. on the 28 July & on the 30th at Petersburg A greate distruction of life on all sides The is nothing doing around the premises.

Th 4th Col Bugg / Matilda Sweet / Fox hunting / Tarier / Thanks given We had another verry heavy rain last night the ground is flooded with Watter. Col Robt Bugg stayed with me last night Matilda sick, Sweet sick. William went a fox hunting this morning I got a little black Tarier puppy of Jo Barton in Town yesterday it shared with me the pleasure of the Storm I was in yesterday. This is Thanksgiven day The Fedrels are morening as in Sack Cloth & ashes

Sat 6th I went to Town No news Col Wilder is gone to the North upon Furlow

Tu 9th I went to the Cedars & saw the greate destruction there of my Timber & drove off Kearby & Robers from halling off my timber

Wed 10. I went to the Cedars with the understanding of counting
