Wed 31 William / Rebbles / Fight / A Calm William went this morning in his bugga to Maryanns. There is much excitement in Town to day No one is permitted to pass the pickets or go to Town or come away The Rebbles are said to be at Lewisbog (I have stayed at home) I have not believed the report of the rebbles being so near tho there are greate excitement all over the Country & a fight expected

9 oclock at night every thing calm & remarkable still no noise no where No news only the pickets are at the tall gates 2 miles from Town. No soldiers have passed the rodes any where to day a perfect calm every way & no body astir & no body at work or doing any thing I have not been able to get any papers or news (I think it all a false alarm) We will see, the pickets will not let any one pass going or coming to Town & are keeping several under gard, where they are on picket. (I stayed at home)

Th 1st Sept Self / William / A. O. Williams The morning is clear & verry calm and a little cool No news from the previous night I was a little unwell through the night.

One oclock P.M. Clear & a perfect calm. No news. No one astir every thing perfectly still & nothing doing No one passing Neither Citizen or Soldier William & A O Williams came at 5 P.M.

1864 Sept Fr 2 / J. W. B. Thomas / bacon / fighting near Town / Green / George The morning is a little cloudy We have no news, every thing is still & but few people a stir. No one is permitted to pass the pickets either way I got this morning 246 lbs of bacon of J. W. B. Thomas 15 cents 11 pieces 1230 246 $36.90

At 10 1/2 Oclock this morning the Canons are heard firing at or near the other side of Columbia on the East side of it, & at this time 11.20 still firing. A few Minnite before 12 the firing all ceased

We have heard nothing from it nor have we seen a single one passing up to this time 12 oclock

Wm Matthews Jas Young Dick McCanless, Tyler Jas W B Thomas all came during the evening & Jack Porter & Wife also came. From all we can gather the Confedrets tore up the rail rode between Franklin & Nashville & on there return back a fight ensued at or near Franklin & on this side of the Town which was the Canons firing this morning that we heard The particulars not yet heard (I have made this entry 8 oclock at Night)

Green & George left the Town and came home this morning Just before the Canons commenced firing.

Sat 3rd / Jack & Wife / A O Williams / Wheat There is no news heard since last evening. The weather is extreamly warm & clear Jack & Wife & Williams A. O. stayed with us last night. Jack went to Town We run our Wheat through the Wheat fan, it is much damaged.

1864 Sun 4 Sept / Confed / Soldiers The Confederates passed through through the lane (14 of them) took Jaggers Mare said there was a good many more up the Creek. There has been 36 Confed Soldiers passed the lane East & West since morning up to 9 oclock A. M. 3 or 4 threw down the lane fence & came to the house yard examined our horses did not take any of them not fit for service. They treated us with respect & went on towards the Pulaskie turnpike We asked them no questions whose command they belong to or any thing that would create Suspicion They one of them wanted verry much a hat or two & pocket knives but did not get either here

10 1/2 Oclock 32 Yankeys went from East to West along the lane next Jaggers One hour & a half the Confeds traveled the same lane from West to East 36 of them We were careful to Count them as they passed No a gun yet fired The 32 Fedrels that past from east to West at 10 1/2 oclock only went to my brick shed stayed there until 12.15 & returned back East through the same lane. They had out pickets in my lane above the Spring taken off at 12.15 minots & went east. 27 Fedrels passed back from East to West in the same lane at 1 oclock P.M. They stood guard at the mouth of the lane at the Shed until night then left Every thing was calm during the evening and all night. Jack came back in the evening, & Saturday the news Wheeler tore up the rail rode between Nashville & Franklin & between Franklin & Columbia

-178/ William / Near Franklin had a fight both sides lost some men They went on South doing all the damages to the R Rods they could

William was verry unwell all night did not sleep but verry little during the night

1864 Septr. Mon. 5 / Alfred / fighting / Martin / Pillow We have but verry little news. It commenced raining at 9 oclock Some thunder & Wind We are trying to git our fences put up & the stock regulated which is much out of fix. We are trying to wash our wheat (Alfred is sick Cold)

The Canon is heard firing in the direction of Pulaskee from 10 1/2 to near 12 oclock to day

The Confeds took Granville Pillow Jur & Jo Martin off with them on yesterday A good deal of feelings about it with the families The Confed distroyed G enl Pillows farm cut down the Cotton & destroyed the fence yesterday the Crop &c was-tended by the Feds. Genl Pillows farm was not hurt

Tu 6 I went to Town News Atalanta was taken or surrendered fighting at Stiversville & Lynnsville & on towards Campbellsville & Col Delaral Tore up the rail rode near Lebanon

Wed 7 / Atalanta / F Smith / Col Melroy The news that Atalanta was taken by the Fedrels are contradicted to day I went to Town got but little news from any where only rumours A greate many people in Town yesterday & to day Parham Smith came last night at 10 1/2 oclock stayed about a half hour & left - Col Melarvy pressed all the horses he could get & went on last night to reinforce the Fedrel forces which

No particular new Wheeler is at Florence Genl Morgan killed near Knoxville I went to Town Conditionally sold the Gray Dan Rice filla to Jim Trust for $300.00

Fr. 9. / Ale / P Smith The morning is cloudy No particular news this morning Alfred is though to be better some fever for several days Ciaro is Mending he has been sick for 8 or 9 days some fever, Cold &c. I went Town No particular news Wheeler is still retreating towards Florrence A good Many verry uneasy ones fearing a draft proposed by Govr Johnson in Ten last night P Smith was here a few Minuts

Sat 10th / Jo Dobbin / Confed Soldiers The morning is clear No news from the previous night The weather is verry warm & has been for several day Majr Jo Dobben was at the Websters the other night, Many others of the Confederates has been stoping through the Country ever since Wheeler came through.
