Sept 13 Tus I went to Town Margaret went to Laniars Some excitement with Jack & some Soldiers that had taken place on Saturday. Mary was in Town lost her girl

Weds 14 I went to Town after old Dash that a Soldier had taken from Saul, got her & brought her back Had some excitement with the Soldiers.

Th 15. / Draft / I went to Town in the evening brought Margaret home she having been at W B Wilson for sever days Govr Johnson has issued a proclamation ordering a draft for the Whites & blacks from the age of 18 to 50. It is creating a a verry considerable excitement amongst both white & black.

Fri 16 I stayed at home all day got no news A. O. Williams stayed last night & went on to Town.

1864 Septr Sat 17 / Sherman / Atlanta / Women & Children / Prisoners / C Dillon The morning is a little cloudy I went to Town No verry particular news, tho it is believed that preperations are making for a fight at Petersburg. Shermans Course in sending several thousand Women Children & old Men from there homes at Atlanta is thought to be verry inhuman & barbarous Condemned verry much indeed Several of the Southern prisoners was captured and brought in Amongst them was Charley Dillon of Columbia He refused to take the Oath but wanted to be

Sun 18 Sept. 64 / peaches / Cider I have stayed at home William & Margaret went & brought some good peaches which I enjoyed verry much No particular news. We have some good cider & are drinking it. It has turned some cooler a little fire of Morning & evenings is verry agreeable

Mon 19 / Corn / Work / Draft / Thomas The morning is clear & cool No news from the previous night. The corn in our old Cribs are all out & we have commenced feeding out of the new Nothing doing around the plantation. I am verry tyred of it I went to Town Many people there greate uneasiness with regard to the enrolment & draft

Thomas was there Fanna & children well he is a little unwell & some uneasy with regart to Govr Johnsons procklimation for enrolment of all from 18 to 50. White & blacks

Tu 20 / Escape Reble prisoners / fight Lincoln I went to Town after dinner Not many people & but little news The enrolment of all from 18 to 50 is the all important question of the day. News that 5,000 reble prisoners made there escape from Camp Chase the 16th Inst. There are greate preperation making for a fight at or near Petersburg It will come off before the President Election & the Fedrel Arms must be Victors or else Lincolns Election will go by the Way of the Bord

-1821864 Sept. Wed. 21st / fight & slaughter / The morning is Cloudy & turned some warmer. News that the Rebles have been defeated on the Potomac on Monday last Greate slaughter upon all sides The Confeds lost greatly some 10 or 15,000 prisoners & retreated some 20 Miles leaving there dead & wounded strowed along the ground not cared for. I went to Town late in the evening

Th. 22 I stayed at home No news Nothing doing A verry considerable rain last night Alfred having been pressed has been released from the work

Fri 23 I went to Town Some news that the Rebles Forrest & others are on this side of Tennessee river The command at Columbia is prepairing to leave & others are to take place

Sat 24 / Forrest / Dinner at Strattons I went to Town News that rail rode is cut South of this place Some says it is only the Wiers Considerable fears that Forrest is near at hand

John Stratton had a dining Several officers & Ben Harlen was there I took Col Bigs in my bugga & went too. We all injoyed our selves remakable well had good liquor and a good dinner Jack left for Nashville his Wife came to my house. It has turned considerable cooler

Sun 25 / Green George Anthony / Much cooler & clear. No news from the over night this morning Green Georg & Anthony are still working on the Fortification at $2.50 per day each. There is rumor that Forrest

Mon 26 I went to Town Greate excitement Forrest has taken Athens Alabama & took a regt & half of prisoners and cut up the rail rode & Telegraph Wires & bridges from Athens to Elkton

A greate many Fedrels on the cars have went on to meet him & many Cavalry & Canon all all gone on to fight.

1864 Tu 27 Sept / fight at Pulaskie / I went to Town The excitement is verry grate The Confeds are not far from Pulaskey & fighting from morning till night The Southerners near the South edge of Town at Night, the Scriminging is very heavy Many reports verry Contradictory Forrest has taken a greate many prisoners.

Wed 28 / Wiers Cut / I went to Town The authorities say they have got no news since last night Just after dark the wires Cut between here and Pulaskie & here & Nashville No Coriers & no body passing It rained a heavy rain last night & I got a little wet coming home last evening Granville P Pillow rode with me in my bugga to Town yesterday & to day. Greate many wounded are carried in to Town 15 Avalances run for several hours last night bringing the wounded in to Town The Ternp. house is full of the wounded.

Th 29 I went to Town News that Forrest had left Pulaskie & went East The Fedrels have come back & scouting all over the County of Maury Camped in my lane

-184Friday 30th / Matthews / Rained I went to Jas W Matthews Esqr & eat my dinner The Fedrels all over the Country I did not go to Town it rained The pickets still in my lane & burning some railes & feeding our Corn.

Sat 1st Octr [sideways margin text / Margaret swept off her poney & Cheated /] I went to Town There was quite an alarm The Confeds run in to the Fedrel lines on the North side of the river near Town took 3 or 4 pickets wounded one or two others took the stage horses 8 & John Rone the driver carried them off run all the Fedrels from the North side of the river to the South side. Greate excitement that Forrest was coming in the evening. I got home found every thing calm

1864 Sunday 2nd Oct / Tom Joneses / fighting / Soldiers / Thomas Brown I went to Tom Jones verry early in the morning & got his note renewed to B. W. Porter Came home & every thing was calm eat dinner and at 2.15 Minnits evening the Guns small arms commenced firing Near Town South & West which continued for 2 hours at or about 4 in the evening the firing ceased the Confeds Mooving of South & West & struck up encampment near & Genl Pillows & Jerome Pillows for the night Next morning we learn that many of the boys had been taken into the Confed lines either forced or otherwise The Feds have closed there lines & no one permitted to pass in or out from the fighting There is not much harm done no way; greate excitement every way. Jno Thomas - - Tytor June Brown & others young men was taken off with the Confederates Considerable
