Got our car asignments in the afternoon. Mine is no. 9 an awful rattletrap.

Took our first trip with camions. Halled lumper and trench timber from Bozoches to a woods a little south of Brenelle. Two cars broke down. Had a good lunch. After lunch went to some batteries near Brenelle and got some empty shells and cannon powder & took it just west of Soissons. Unloaded in a rough field about ten o'clock at night. Had a rough and thrilling night ride, without any lights home. Got home at 2 A.M. Two cars got lost and didn't get in until 3 A.M. I guided seven cars from Braine home

as they didn't know the road and I had been over it in the morning due to a little slipup on Foster's part.

Worked on our cars and around camp. Went swimming at Braine in the Vesle River. Ben took us down in his car.

Wednesday, June 20, 17

Got up at 4 A.M. Went to Ville-Savoye and got a load of ammunition. Had trouble with my car. Bert & Ben got stalled & didn't make the trip. Halled the ammunition through Fismes, Meivalle, Oeilly, and unloaded in some trees by some batteries of small and large guns at Cuissy Fer'me. Had lunch. After lunch

Walked to the aviation field. Two planes came in from the lines with shrapnel holes in them. An observer friend of mine gave me a picture of the German lines on the Chemind de Dames taken from an aeorplane. Got home 11:30. No dinner & very tired.

Saturday, July 28, '17.

Went to Braine in the afternoon for water. Tried out No 6. Still on the bum. Worked on the our while the boys went swimming. Keefer nearly drowned. After dinner Dick & I

horrible sights. Two Amer. camion drivers from the lower camp were wounded by shrapnel. Helmet saved one fellows life. Two ambulance men were killed from section 66 at Glenries. No. 6 ran fine. Eugene Sturgis was my second driver. Brought empties back to Bazoches. I was in charge of the convoi. Made fine time with no misshaps. Eleven cars. Got home at 6 P.M.

Went to Braine with Ernie for water and suplies for the store.

cigarretts [cigarettes] that he had received through the mail. Herb. & I agreed that we might smoke one cigarrett [cigarette] each. It was a big night for all the boys.

Tuesday Sept. 18, '17,

Three convois [convoys] went out, but Herb. and I fixed it up so we could stay at home. Wrote letters. Behind with letters to seventeen different people.

Wednesday Sept. 19, '17

Convoi [Convoy] at seven to Bozoches to Ferm Pierre through Soissons, then back to Bozoches and took another load to Braine. We carried 4,500,000 rounds of rifle and machine gun amunition. We had eight cars on the run and there were fourty [forty] altogether. Saw a lot more of big guns at
