608 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sep 21 1888 Be it remembered that on this 21st day of September A D 1888 the Common Coouncilof the Cityof Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are present to wit: Mayor Robt Moran and Councilmen Burns, Durie, Green, Jones, McCombs, McDonald and Reitze. the following proceedings are had to wit: Petitions etc. Petition of Wm H Cowie for permission to raise and move wooden building in rear of his premises on East side of South Second Street between Mill & Washington Streets, read and referred to Com on Fire & Water. Petition of the Puget Sound Improvement Company asking that the provision of Ordinance No 837 relating to the widening of Second Street be carried into effect read and referred to the Street Committee Petition of the Puget Sound Improvement Company to have Second Street planked from James Street to Marion Street read and referred to the Committee on Streets Petitionof W F Dearborn to have the name of Cedar Street in Bell's Addition changed so as to not interfere with Cedar Street in Terry's 1st Addition read and referred to Street committee. Petition of M Keezer for permission to raise sidewalk on Terrace Street read and referred to the Street Com. Petition of W W Burritt & others for a sewer in Virginia Street, read and referred to Com of Sewers & Drainage Petition of W Copeland and others for a drain ditch on Tenth Street from Howell to Depot Street read and referred to Street Committee.

Adopted From same Committee granting petition of D R Hughes & others fro grading alley through Block 6 Maynard's plat adopted. From Committee on Harbor & Wharves granting petition of Seattle Lake Shire and Eastern R R Co 7 others for the Extension of Madison Street andthe Clerk is directed to advertise for bids for said work the work tobe done under the direction of the City Surveyor. Adopted. Liquor licenses ordered Issued N P Wildrick, Vitus Schmid & Long & Kelley, Thevote upon issuing six licenses is as follows: In favor of the same, Burns, Durie,Jones, Green, Mc Donald, McCombs and Reitze Against same none. Applications referred Patrick Welch, E Myer, Begley & Salmon. Gottleib Burien & McNett & Clingan Bills allowed. 617 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 21 1888 running at large within certain limits" which is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of the same Burns, Durie, Green, Jones, McCombs, McDonald and Reitze. Against the same none. 999 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Clerk entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of the same Burns, Durie, Green, Jones, McCombs, McDonald and Reitze. Against the same none. Miscellaneous Ordered that the matter of the Front Street Bulkhead be referred to the Street Committee and City Surveyor. Ordered that the Plat of Lynch and Shields Additions to the City of Seattle be and the same is approved. The Street Committee reports that it has two applications for the position of Inspector of Street Numbering viz: A B Greenus and A H Dawson on motion the names of the two applicants are placed in nomination and a ballot having been taken thereon A B Greenus receives six votes and A H Dawson one vote where upon the said A B Greenus is declared duly elected Inspector of Street Numbering. 619 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 28 1888 Virginia Street Tax Levy Ordered that a tax of One hundred and fifty one (151) Mills on each and every dollar of the assessed valuation of all propertyincluded within the assessment district created by Ord No 938 be and the same hereby is lveied on said property for the purpose of paying for the improvement of Virginia Street from West Street to Fourth Street in the City of Seattle. The Clerk submits an ordinance entitled "An ordinance to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote: Burns, Durie, Green , Jones, McCoombs McDonald and Reitze Against same none.
