To make the Comon Oyle of Stt. John's
Take of new & levees sallit oyle one quart & put
theirto into afair glass as many of [th]e yellow
flowers of St Johns worte (all [th]e [green] taken
away) as will fill up olwine pint measure then
stir [the]m together w[i]th [th]e knife & set [th]e glass w[i]th [th]e
oyle & flowers in [th]e sun in [th]e hottest place you
find for [th]e space of 15 days & once they set [one]
Stir or shake [th]e glass well and when it hath it hath
been [soe sunned] strain [th]e said oyle and crush [th]e flowers
very hard [tha]t all [th]e strength may be in [th]e oyle [the]n take
anoth[e]r pint of flow[e]rs & doo as before for oth[e]r 15 days
& when they are expired take one another pint of flowers
[th]e third time & let [the]m be served as before [th]e space
