wash it clean with soap and warm watter, have it perfectly clean, then stretch the skin and tack it on a plank rub a hand full of salt on it while it is wet then put on pulverised alum one pound for a large skin half pound for a lamb skin let it lie that way for four or five days before it gets drye take a whet stone or smoothe stone and rub and dress the flesh side several days 1st or 2nd a day until it is smoothe and soft & drye the Alum may be put on at several different times as fast as it will soak into the skin

It should be rubed while it is getting drye until perfectly drue take care not to rub through if the skin dryes faster than the 4 or 5 days use the whetstone sooner

Aunt Lucy Died July 22 1861 old Aunty Lucy died of dropesy sick a long time buried Francess buring ground. She was faithful servant all the family white & black was greatly attached to her. She had the care of the family White & black for Forty years She died much regretted.

Monday Sept 7th 1861 Colic got to my Saddle horse and crippled ^him up verry bad All flesh wounds, but he is verry much hurt will not be fit for service for 2 or 3 weeks

-23I was waid to day in Town 204 lbs. Oct 8th 1861

[following table crossed out:] Wed. 30 Oct. 1861 I delivered to Plato Moore 3 beef hides half dry 1st weighed 22 lbs. No 2 [weighed] 48 [lbs.] No 3 [weighed] 32 [lbs.] to be tanned upon the shares.

31 Oct. 1861 I got 2 beaves of A Warfield Weighing Gross 1675 lbs. at 6 1/2 Cents Neat. 837 1/2 neat

1861 25 Acres 11 poles

[along left margin of entry:] Yanky White Corn Oct 26 finished gathering the field North of the Garden (Northern Corn). I have been using but of it ever since it was in Roston Ears &c shelled & had some ground into meal the 21st Augt I gather 27 Waggon loads about 4 barrels each load. ( (I made I think about 8 lbs to the Acre--) 108 bushels

[along left margin of entry:] Yanky White Corn I gathered the field South of the Ginger Spring branch and North of the branch and in between the branches the load is 4 barrels each Northern Corn 30 loads ----------------- 12 ----------------- 6 48 ----------------- 4 192 About 18 acres which is 10 2/3 barrels of Corn to the Acre.

The New Ground part same field - 7th Decr 1861 24 Wagon loads - 96 bushels

18 Decr There was in the field West of the Glad lots 23 good Waggon loads of Corn & 5 [Waggon loads] in the long field 28 loads (Dec. 18 1861) 112 [bushels]

There was in the North West field next to A. Dixons 27 good Waggon loads holled to the Crib & 2 to the hog pen Making 29 loads 116 [bushels]

There is in all 184 Waggon loads and in place of 4 4 ½ to each load holds lbs 736 92 Total 828 barrels Dec 21st 1861 We fed all the long field to the hogs except 5 loads.
