-721867 The morning is clear & calm but little are astir. I went to Augt Th 29 Dr Akins and will get lime George & Tom came & worked after lime dinner one half the day Making 2 days to this time. See George) Tom( Tuesday & Wednesday they hands finished mending the bridge to 2 days) day. I got one load of lime about 17 bushels Jack Jack worked halling for himself

Fr 30 The morning is quite cool clear & calm I sent & got a load of lime today about 17 bushels making in all about 37 bushels in all Mag Mag went to Town today did not come home at night George) George & Tom is working today at the Smoke house foundation Tom) Jack William got home at 9 oclock at night. Jack halled for himself

Sat 31 The morning is clear calm & quite cool. George & Tom is at George &) work this morng they worked until 12 oclock half a day. Tom) George & me agreed he will work at $2.00 pr day & agrees to pay Charge) board, rent) $4.00 pr month for house rent for the time he has lived in it &c & work) See act book All hands quit at dinner Jack Jack Patton took 10 bushels of Meal to Town & sold it at .50 cents pr bushel today. We have got the 2 sides of the foundation Seller of the Smoke house ready for the Joist over the Seller Caleb We got 5 yds domestick for Charley closes it cost $1.00 (Charged on act) Thos Thomas sent for some Meal I divided with him abt a bushel

-73- 1867 September Sun 1 It commenced raining before day & quit after daylight It is still rainy & misting a little all day At one oclock not hard I hope I will have a season on my turnips which is jus Self coming up My General health is still improving Puss is still cooking Puss

Mo 2 The morning is cloudy & cool looks like rain. Caleb helped Caleb me with making doore frames George came & worked on the foun-dation of Smoke house George Tom did not come to work as he should Charley halled wood & John helped George.

Tu 3 George The morning cloudy & cool George is at work with his hammer Caleb at work at the doore frames Charley is halling wood & John is helping George. Mag Mag went to Town & returned in the evening.

Wed 4 The morning is clear calm & warm, it is verry warm through the day & a little cool morning & evenings. George ) Caleb ) George is at work at the Seller Caleb at work at the doores Charley & John is hilping George &c. William William did not come home last night The Court is in Session & is keeping the Clerk verry busy his health is quite good now. Mag went after dinner I think to & home at night

1867 Sept Th 5 Richard The morning is a little cloudy We halled 2 barrels of watter from the pawn Richard took bill & Kit to hall wood to Town today.

-74- George George is working on the Smoke house building the Chimley & Seller. Charley & John is working with George

Fr 6 The morning is cloudy the morning is a little cloudy & verry warm George $2. ) George worked to dinner half day & then went to Town I paid him $2.00 Richd Rich is halling wood to Town for himself Bill & Kitt Mules he is to pay me in work the same as Jack Patton Puss &c I give Puss $1.00 & she rode the Black Mare to Town, give Clary & Lorra a dime apiece. Rob Erwin hogs) Rob Erwin & 2 others pulled down my lott fences all round hunting these hogs behaved badly

Sat 7 The morning is cloudy & warm dead cat under the house a dead Cat ) the Cent kept me from sleeping all night George got it out with a good deal of work it was verry much dicayed & Smelled verry bad I paid George $.50 for it. Thomas L. Porters Wagon came last night they took 5 bushels of Meal & 2 barrels of Corn Making about 5 barrels in all they 2 boys & Wagon & 4 Mules Got off from the Mill about 12 oclock I learn Bob Erwin & his 2 brothers came Rob Erwin came & carried one of old Peggas pigs & undertook to take it home. I stopt them a good smart altercation & hard words passed George Richd $5.00 ) George is at work at the Seller &c Rich sold 8 1/2 bushels of Meal at $.60 making $5.00 (See the other side)

Rus W. Porter } Rus W. Porters Mule was sent out from Columbia to be taken care of until Monday Sent out yesterday he is to return back tomorrow he has been in the Western Dist (Tax assessions)

Mon 9 Smoke H. George P. Sterling Press & Jack Richard Smoke House John & Charley Jim } This morning is clear calm & beautiful The boys are commenced work this morng at the Smoke House George, Sterling, & Jim laying brick Preston & Jack making up mortar & other things Charley & John is helping & Richard is shelling Corn to take to Mill (the Steam Mill) to pay for the Salt & flower we got Saturday at Harris & Kinser & Jno halled 3 loads of watter 2 barrels Beef $2.00 I got $2.00 worth of beef this morning

Tu 10 Jim George Sterling Preston Jack Tom Richd Self Smoke House Pawn dry } The morning is a little cloudy the wind is in the North blows a little cool All hands that worked yesterday is at work today with the adition of Tom he sends Red in his place Richard took a load of Meal to Town to Harris. All hands are at work I went to Town to the Shop & got back some Irons about the Smoke house Chimney made. I got back before dinner Doores Rankins pawn is about dry. We have put up the doores this morning. William did not get home last night Mag Wm Mag went to Town

-76Jim George } work today that worked yesterday Red is working in the place of Tom Sterling Press Jack Richd Tom } We got along on the house verry well got up about 3 feet all round yesterday & today making tonight feet Jack is halling brick having finished our new bead It is fine Smoke House Beef $ Richard went to market got $ of beef

Th 12 The morning is clear calm & cool George Press Jack Richd Tom George H. Jim Charly & John Smoke House } The same hands that worked yesterday all except Sterling he did not come today & George Hargrove & Jack is at work helping hall brick Red is working in the place of Tom McCanless Jack is halling sand They are gitting a long verry well working at the Smoke house Cousin Russ W. Porter came last night & spent the night with us. I was glad to see him he is a Revenue Assessor for several Counties. Russ W. Porter stayed with us today not verry well.

Fr 13 The morning is clear Wind is from the South & warm Russ W. Porter left this morning he traded his mule to Thomas L. for his horse. George Sterling Preston Jack Richd Wm George H. Jim Joist } The boys are at work Tom did not send Red nor come himself today We put up the 3 first Joist this morning William left for Nasheville this morning Sterling is at work We put up the Joist in passage. I went to Town to prove that Self McBride Bradshaw } Saml McBride & Eli O. Bradshaw were soldiers of the War of 1812

1867 Sept Sat 14 The Morning is a little cloudy Calm & Warm. I sent Richd to Town and got $2.50 worth of beef
