-62cure 20 head of hogs It shod be given once ever 3 months Chickens this will cure the chickens this is Mr Hudspeth cure I think it will do Cabbage Worms } Jerusalem Oke put on the head of cabbage will destroy the worm Hudspeths Mare & Colt } Mr Hudspeth took away his Mare & Colt today Sunday She has been here for a month or two

1867 Augt Sun 4 The Morning clear & calm A little are from the S. E. pleasant, but little news astir There was preaching in the old schoolhouse near the creek on Mrs Wilsons land parson Gallaway held forth. Mag Mag has not come home left last Friday She is at Jacks.

Mon 5 The morning is verry pleasant clear & verry calm Turnips John is plowing the garden the 2d time it was plowed last Tuesday to sow turnips it is doing verry well Ball William took Ball to the Shop to git him shod. Tomatoes We have the finest tomatoes I have ever seen & the most of them there ripening verry fast, plenty of them Mag Mag come home this evening

Tu 6th The morning is clear & calm I am going in my bugga to Mt. Pleasant this morning. Mt Pleasant Self I returned in the evening I did not effect the business I was on I drove Ball he done verry well the rode to the Mt Pleasant pike is almost impassable for a bugga. Richd The trip worried me verry much Richd went with me & drove the bugga Wm Gate William stayed about home after dinner fixed

-63up the Gate to pass into the lott & stable near the potato house Garden John finished plowing & harrowing the Garden to sow turnips borrowed J H Thomas harrow he also fixed up the Gate near the Smoke house there are verry fine Crops making in the neighbourhood of Mt Pleasant Mary ann Mary & family & Thomas & family is yet at Summer Town Mary is better J. B. Crofford } Jane B. Crofford is at Wums Springs with R Looney & family.

1867 Augt Wed 7 The morning clear clam & beautiful Press & George & Jack is still working in there Crops of Cotton. Jack has West hired to plow Jno Press John is still plowing for Press & he is cutting weeds in my stable lott in Johns place yesterday & the day before Brick Becket } Becket got 3842 brick See order at $1.00 pr 1000. Rone Rone &c Shaddon & Jordans Wagons halled them.

Th 8th The morning is clear calm & a little cool it turn verry warm about 10 oclock & through the day until night. The after part of the nights are quite cool, it has been so for a week. Weather Sewed Turnips Radesh & lettice } We have sewed some turnip seed Radish Seed & lettice seed in the gardin plowed them in with bull tong plows Richard & John is doing the plowing & George Hargroves sowing the seeds putting them in verry well having broke up the ground twist with double horn plows Press & others & done plowing } Jack Press George & Ric is all down plowing Caleb got done last week laying there Crops bye. Jack is taking John Mule &

-64- Jack halling } tyger Mule in his Wagon to hall wood for himself to Town he is to haul for me a day for every day he works my Mules he is to furnish his own feed when he halls for himself & I am to furnish feed for the Mules when he halls for me he works his own wagon all the time & his own board all the time. Sugar Got a dollars worth of Sugar

Fr 9 The morning is a little cool clear & calm some little fog in the hollows We are trying to git our Wagon gears Bricking up &c Rain It rained a verry good season between 3 & 4 oclock fine on my turnips sowed yesterday

1867 Augt Sat 10 The morning is clear calm & a little cool the rain that fell yesterday is the making of the Corn Crops every thing looks thriving & beautiful William William had a verry bad cold for a week he is quite unwell with it this morning he is quite horse & coughs verry much, he is still going to Town and attending to his business in the Clerks office with W. B. Wilson I was out at the Steam Saw Mill they grind every Saturday they are doing good business Meal to Town } I had about 8 or 9 bushels of Meal ground & Richd & John took it to Town & did not get sale for it they took it too late in this evening Water Mellons } No particular news Watter mellons are verry plenty seems to go a beging Candles Missing } We have missed 6 Candles out of the closet in a few days past I got 24 on the 1st day of Augt. Jack halled for himself 3 days this week Th F. & Sat

-65- Sun 11 The morning is clear & calm Verry pretty weather House flies distroyed } recpt to kill flies } House flyes may be efectually destroyed by taking half a spoonful of black pepper in powerder, on a table spoonful of brown sugar & one teaspoonful of cream mix them well together & place them in a room where the flies are troublesome & they will soon be efecually destroyed. See Union & dispatch (Weakly) Augt the 8th. 1867. (I made a trial of this and it did not do no account.) Williams health is not verry good & verry bad cold he is better of a morning but bad off in the evening and at night he has some cough that is troublesome. I think this the warmest day We have had Verry opressingly so

1867 Augt Mon 12 Self The morning is clear & calm & quite warm I have been bad off with cold all night better as the day rises. Mag Mag went to Town came back before dinner John & Felix halled several loads of Wood to cook with. Wm William is suffering with cold I think better Noah & Slate } Mr. Noah & Mr Slate came out late in the evening to look at our Stock of young horses Jack halled for himself.

Tu 13 The morning is clear & calm Verry beautiful weather.

-660Wed 14 The morning is calm & mostly clear some little are astir from ( Self the east. ) I rested much better last night than I have for ) ( Wm several nights William I think is better also of his cold ) ( Hode ) the hands all round are working on the rode between Jaggers & Worked ) me William J. Jaggers died last night he has been lying verry W. J. ) ( Jaggers ) low for a long time with consumption ) John & Charley went to Died ) ( halling sand they halled three loads yesterday 10 bushels each Sand ( all 30 bushels ) & has halled 6 loads today Jack has halled ( Jack for himself today There was a little shower of rain not Rain enough to do any good We put 2½ bushels of Meal in the box Meal in Cook house This is part of the Meal ground last Saturday, 2 bags left.

1867 The morning is clear calm & beautiful the are is mooving Augt Th 15 from the North. My health is about like it was my cold is Self braking. Wm Williams health is still improving slowly Sand John & Harley is halling sand they have halled 4 loads today ( George ) they are getting along as well as could be expected ) George Hargroves ) ( & family ) Hargrove & family left upon a visit to Alabama this morning on a visit) Monk took them in the Buga to Town they will take the Care Jack Jack is halling for himself today

Fr 16 The morning is clear calm & cool in the morning Wind from the ( N. ) William is not so well cough is verry troublesome he threw Wm ( off some blood from his throat or lungs complains of a pain
