1867 July Mon 22 Self The morning is clear calm & quite cool fire feels verry comfortable I feel much better this morning Wash Wash is going to work in his Corn today, is getting several hands to help him, the little altercation about it is doing some good Wm William went to Summer Town yesterday Not expected Back for several days. Mag Mag Went to Town rode Ball got back in Evening Potatoes Stealing } I am trying to cut the large weeds out of my Irish potatoes patch I find that they are stealing them of nights if they keep on this way they have begun we wont have any lef long the track is a verry large one Negro track & shoe run down Tom Mc Preston } Tom McCanlass (Col) & Preston is helping us cut the weeds out of the potatoes today

-58Wed 24 The morning is clear & calm & a little cool. Stole Meal } Some one last night went into the cook house & stole about a bushel of Meal out of the box I went to Washs he seemed to quit his field Self We had a considerable altercation I rode all over the farm & was verry much effected by the heat a head ake &c Wm William has not got home from Summer Town

1867 July Th 25 Wash Oats The morning is quite clear calm & warm. Wash Porter (Col) halled up & put in the Old Crib what he said was my portion of Oats, 375 bundles he is a verry much dog he has been using them ever since he cut them about 2 weeks but says he has not used any (they were verry much molded) of it. Seen entry on Act Book- Press & George Oats } Preston & George is halling up my part of there Oats & putting them in the Old Crib. See entry on Act Book Hot Weather } This day is extreamly hot weather William } William has not returned from Summer Town Gun firing } The blacks were firing there guns in the night until bead time What does it mean

West Was verry cloudy & warm all night Rain It has been raining (Showery) through the day It helps the Crops some Not much doing Jane B. Crofford & Rob Looney } Sister Jane B. Crofford & Robert Looneys family has got up from Memphis Wm } William did not git home tonight.

-59- Sat 27 The morning cloudy & sprinkling rain at 9 oclock the Wind is from the S. West Mob & Killing } I learn that Ethridge was interrupted in his Speaking at and a fight insued & several killed upon both sides. Mon 29 The morning early was cloudy they were mooving from N. E. to S. W. R. F. Looney & family } Rob F. Looney & family all there J B Crofford Springs } Jane B. Crofford had gone took the Cars last Saturday and went by the way of Nashville to Wums Springs Robt Looney will go on to the same place to-morrow (Tues) they will travel through in there Buggas. Write to A. Warren at Memphis } Looney said to write to Majr. A. Warren 237 Main Street Memphis for information of the men or company that is building the Nicholson pavement in Memphis. John is plowing Garden } John with Bill & Jno Mule is plowing the garden to sow turnips the rest of the Negroes Male & female has gone to hear Hughs & Been address the Negroes near Col Pillows Negro Meeting Hughs & Been } The is greate excite-ment all over the country expectation of a riot & fuss through-out the state Puss Puss has been gone all day to the Speaking I hear of many leaving the Town, going off to evade the fuss on Election day.

Fr 2d Rain The morning is cloudy looks like rain There was a verry heavy rain last night about 12 or 1 oclock enough to raise the wat ters & wet the ground thoraly. We have fine Crops at this time. Mag Mag went to Town with William in Bugga. Commadore Stud Shod } William come home & took my Bugga to Town got new Tyres & Dan Stricklin to make them & put them on Bugga. George got the Commadore shod before.

Buggas Cast } I got Bugga tyre of Mays & Street & Bills &c It cost see bill (paid) 8.57 Old Daniel Stricklin blacksmith put them on $ Meal Sold } Richard took some Meal to Town about seven bushels & sold it at about 60 cents pr bushel Got a half bushel cost .90 Cts Meal & sold } [table] John $5.00 } Paid Plummer for Johns hire up to the 22 of July $5.00 making in all $15.00 Hogs Collery } One qr lbs of Asofedita to one lb of Madder desolve the Assafedity in warm watter Stur in the Madder in the watter & assafedity then put in Meal & Corn enough to make the hogs eat it this enough to
