Wednesday Jan 8

Fine & mild today, turning colder during the evening. Was not out until after tea when B.E.W. went with me to Ewart's for a few minutes. Alastair with a cold - the [unclear] in bed. Alastair as usual wanting pigs & "humpty-dumptys" made. Very sweet & bewitching. Slight snow-fall. Read a little to Eth. after dinner, at safe distance, from "Onlooker's Note-book" by Geo. Russell.

Later, not sleeping readily, dipped into 'FitzGerald's Letters' to Mrs. Kemble with the usual enjoyment.

Dorothy up from before lunch but not looking very brilliant. Heavy cold.

Edmund got through an unusually busy day very well. Carl at dinner.

Sunday Jan 12

Very stormy morning though not cold. Wind, rain & snow. E.I. to church. Elsie's baby christened by [unclear] Campbell - "Daniel James", after his grandfather. B.E.W. unfortunately obliged to meet other bankers in town on Sovereign Bank matters, & again in the evening. Mr. Geo. A. Reid came to see him in the afternoon & I had a chat with Mrs. Reid by telephone. Read to Ethelwyn part of her Uncle's Article on Mystery of Hamlet.

Less stormy in the aft. Walking very bad. Ethelwyn downstairs this aft., but looking much pulled down and coughing. D. and Alf. to see G. & John in the aft. The four came to supper in the evening.
