I carry it in my inside blouse pocket, over my heart and every evening before going to sleep. I look at it. All the memories of the wonderful times we used to have, come back to me and I dream of the more wonderful times we're going to have, you and I dearest. Every French girl I see reminds me of you, but I can find none that measure up to my girl of sunny California, you dear.

When I stroll out in the country I feel that You are so near I see you in the clouds and trees. Your voice I hear — the whispering breeze Reminds me, and the song of birds, That you are near.

Just a year ago today I sent you a kiss from France. Yes, the thing arrived in May -That was just a circumstance. Now the mails are working better, Soldiers drilling stiff as starch, And you may receive this letter (And the sender) late in March.

the matter with him. Rec'd the letter from Carrie and have answered it already. Also got a letter from Louis Williams.

He is at Fort Niagara New York and he is skinning mules and is in charge of the stables.

He said they had another blizzard there a few days ago and just as soon as the war was over he was going to beat it back to sunny California. Well I hope all of the invalids are getting along good and will soon get well. Am feeling pretty good myself. Well I am getting sleepy so guess

trying to talk to the Frenchmen. Wish I could talk a little French and I would be jake then. One surely realizes that a war is going on after being over here. The Marines have been doing great work against the Huns so far. I hope the war will come to an end before long, which I think will.

Will have lots of experiences to tell you if I come back when it is over. Seen Cheyenne Mahan the other day riding on a motocycle but he never got my eye. Might run on to some of the other boys yet. There is a quite a few boys from California in our company. Woods is in the hospital with the mumps so dont know whether I will see him any more or not. Well I guess I will close for this
